'MCA central committee should also resign'

vox populi small thumbnail 'Since the delegates voted out the president, the central committee should also resign since they collectively decided to expel the former deputy.'

PM tightens noose around Ong's neck

DNG: The MCA president as well as the central committee must all resign. Failing to do so will make a mockery of the party process and all its leaders. It's as simple as that.

MHQ: There is nothing to analyse in the outcome of the EGM as the voting results are crystal clear. The central committee (CC) has no right to reject the decision of the president since he has lost the confidence by party members.

Since the delegates voted out the president, the central committee should also resign since they collectively decided to expel the former deputy. The voting results are a tight slap in the face of the president and the CC. Is the CC a higher authority than the EGM or AGM?

Since the CC admitted the president is not alone in the matter, all of them should resign and call for fresh party elections. Don't play any more ‘wayang kulit'.

Disgusted: It looks like Umno and former MCA bigwigs who have been implicated in the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) scandal must be rejoicing.

Since Ong Tee Keat revealed partially and not everything about the PKFZ affair, now he may as well reveal all as he has nothing to lose. He may as well implicate Umno people who have so far been hiding behind the MCA and putting the blame on MCA.

As Raja Petra Kamaruddin said, the whole cabinet under Dr Mahathir Mohamad as well as Pak Lah were aware and are culpable in the PKFZ affair.

Lim Chong Leong : It is obvious who were the ‘third force' in the EGM.

The vice-presidents in MCA do not have the cunning to muster any attack of such scale to destroy the only two leaders who could hold their ground in the current wilderness.

The ‘third force' has involvement in every level of the PKFZ issue and was the ultimate beneficiary. That is undoubtedly Umno.

The two fellas fought and killed each other and Umno benefits. With Ong Tee Keat gone, the PKFZ issue will now go under the carpet. And PM Najib Razak does not have to appoint a ‘porn star' into cabinet.

Of course, Najib now wants to put in the last nail into Ong's political coffin. Too much has been planned and invested into this scheme for it not to work.

Ong's hesitation in resigning is sending some last shivers down the spine of these Umno and ex- MCA leaders. Ong may still just tender his resignation, which will be rejected on a ‘technical' ground of not being supported by two-thirds majority.

The CC cannot accept his resignation based on the almost 50/50 decision. Najib is not home just yet.

High Chaparral chief livid over apology request

Ghkok: There's a lot of hot air in M Sugumaran's statement. I really doubt the truth of his statement. He's been a poor leader of the residents.

The residents themselves are split with some very happy with the compensation and thanking the state government. I doubt the state government is asking for ‘an apology'... that would be quite unusual.

Kgen: A public apology demanded from Sugumaran and the rest of the 10 troublemakers is fair. They have been attacking and badmouthing Lim Guan Eng and his government like nobody's business.

By right, Lim should not even bother about compensation for them. Let them take their case to Umno's court.

But Lim is magnanimous enough to help them, provided they apologise for their insults. The shameless Sugumaran is still demanding this and that as if the Penang government owes him and his cohorts a living.

Go to Hindraf and the Human Rights Party (HRM) for help, Sugu. Have you no sense of shame?

Suhakam: Lim Guan Eng, why are you making it hard for the Kg Buah Pala folks to even see you?

You are a statesman who depends on the people to stay alive politically. Your attitude is disappointing. Why can't you simply resolve the issue rather than prolonging it?

Pakatan Rakyat will definitely feel the pinch of your actions. Remember, at the end of the road, you will be kneeling before the people again.

Intimidation by UM authorities shocking, appalling

Aw Man: Universiti Malaya has been elevated to 180 th place by Times Higher Education Supplement in its 2009 ranking of universities.

With this piece of obviously selective persecution, it clearly demonstrates a burning desire to fall back to its more comfortable position - below 200.

In the 2010 Thes ranking, it surely will, given its brain-dead administration's lack of good sense.

Lee Heng Soon: It seems that our university authority thinks that they are the best example for the undergraduates. I believe some of the undergraduates are a thousand times smarter and wiser than the staff.

If our Malaysian university is not even listed in the best in the world, how can we be convinced that their leadership is the best?

KSS: It must be remembered that Malaysia's premier university is populated by a lot of mediocre people. By some estimates, about 80 percent of the staff and students would not be there if the appointment and selection was based on academic ability and merit.

All this current nasty and blatantly discriminatory action is being taken by a group of third-rate and relatively incompetent academics.

This is because this is the only way they can stand out and show their loyalty and ability to the corrupt and dictatorial regime and earn their promotions.

People of real calibre and ability will not stoop so low and would rather resign in disgust if they are forced to carry out such persecution. These able people can easily earn a living outside UM as other universities and organisations would welcome them.

But for the large number of mediocre and third-rate academics, UM is their only bread and butter and some of them will do anything to enhance their future.
