vox populi small thumbnail 'Read the facts - Tian Chua only bit the policeman after he was punched. Why was the policeman not charged for overstepping the use of force?'

Another 10 by-elections on the cards, warns Bersih

Erina Heights : Justice must only be done but also seen to be done. Read the facts - Tian Chua only bit the policeman after he was punched. Why was the policeman not charged for overstepping the use of force? Or does all law enforcers in this country has the right to use any amount of force to subdue, not just reasonable force.

Here we have VK Lingam who had caused worse damage to the country - where is the sense of common decency of the attorney-general (rational Malaysians already knows that his sense has been long sold to the highest bidder) of the man who had been tasked to uphold the rule of law (one of the tenets of Rukunegara)?

Where is my beloved Malaysia heading to? An inherently evil man as PM who will stop as nothing to achieve his political aims, a police force which is headed by an incompetent man, an AG who prosecute selectively...

Yuvan: In a way, I am of the opinion that these things should happen, i.e. Pakatan Rakyat representatives losing their parliamentary and state assembly seats due to court decisions. A major portion of the electorate today are very much aware of what is happening.

Court actions involving Pakatan reps and leading to by-elections will only earn more sympathy for them. In all probability, Pakatan reps could win most of such by-elections. That shouldn't be a problem.

The real issue is Pakatan has a lot more to do to convince the people that it not only needs 'more sympathy' but a strong backing on its policies and plans. This can be achieved only if Pakatan remains strong and prove itself that it can be a viable alternative to the ruling coalition.

It is quite sad that a number of Pakatan reps' performance is still lacking and some of them are still behaving like political novice.

Geronimo: Pakatan needs to re-strategise the way of bringing their grouses to the fore. Umno is looking desperately for ways and means to bring Pakatan down and what better way than to see its reps being nabbed for illegal assemblies and such. No need to crack their empty skulls to cook up corruption cases, which can proved to be a headache for them when someone "accidentally" dies.

The judge is too kind to fine Tian Chua RM3,000. He could have fine him RM2,000.01 and Tian Chua would still be out. What is done is done. Let the by-elections start and we will seek to retain the seats the best we can, and I know we can. We cannot afford to allow Umno the luxury of having that two-third majority.

Pun: I think that Pakatan better stop behaving like uneducated politicians, and further more this culture of street protest and disobedience is not healthy. It provokes the police and leads to such cases. Why can't Pakatan reps prove to the people what they can do? Do they need to make trouble to let people see they are working? I expect decorum and good manners from future leaders.

It looks like DSAI (Anwar Ibrahim) has a strategic plan to entice the people by doing such things. Can you believe it, our peace being used as a strategic tool? So far what has it achieved? Can Bersih also help protect the interests of the peace-loving rakyat and condemn this type of behaviour. What next? Suicide bombings?

Wira: Against a partisan police, Pakatan basically have no choice but to take it to the streets in peaceful assembly as guaranteed by the spirit of our federal constitution where citizens have the right to gather in peaceful assembly.

In true democracies, the police would grant permission to demonstrators and would ensure the safety of the demonstrators and minimise the inconvenience to road users by diverting traffic away from the event, requiring protestors to adhere to a fixed route and time table. That the demonstrators are instead frustrated with tear gas and chemical spray is an abuse of the provisions in our federal constitution.

Gov't explains probe on Malaysiakini

Justgreat: The cow head incident is offensive to whom? And who is offending who? Is it the Chinese to Indians? No! It is the Umno goons to Indians in this country. Today Umno goons does it to the Indians, next they will do it to the Chinese. What are the authorities doing about it?

Just watch the soap opera unfold before your eyes - the 12 suspects will just be let off with a slap on the wrist. They are Umno supporters, and this alone ensure they will be protected by the law - the law of Umno and the jungle.

Chee Hoe Siew: Our top brass in MCMC has totally missed the point in trying to justify the investigation. They have failed to answer the very fact that Malaysiakini is simply reporting an incident. If Malaysiakini has been selective or bias in its reporting, then it is deemed a conspiration.

However, this has not been so. So why instead of reprimanding those who try to provoke disharmony, MCMC goes on to shut the mouth of those reporting? Seriously, we can only say that MCMC is just another minion of BN to stop criticism of BN's screw-ups.

Spoiler: Such stupidity! Of course, there were elements of racism but would not it be more appropriate to investigate the people in the video rather than Malaysiakini ?

Tan Keng Sim: It's not the videos; it's the content of the videos, i.e. the people involved in them. If there are elements of racism, MCMC should go after the home minister and those involved in the cow head incident! Why is the government doing this? Are they so embarrassed over Hishammuddin Hussein's comments that they have to try to 'wipe out' what he said?

Asean mulls ambitious World Cup bid

Call me Jibby: Why not? This is the only chance Malaysia able to "qualified" for the World Cup. As a (one of the) host(s), that country automatically "qualified" for the first round. I can't imagine how Malaysia team will perform - if I'm not mistaken, Malaysia's world ranking is even lower than the likes of Laos and Cambodia.

Boonpou: This ambition among Asean countries to bid for the World Cup would amount to zero. Besides many logistic problems, one that stood up is the issue of Israel. What if Israel qualifies for the World Cup? How are you going to deal with issuing special visas for Israelis who want to enter countries like Malaysia or Indonesia when the two countries don't even recognise their sovereignty? Have these overzealous individuals who are dreaming of Asean hosting the World Cup even thought of this?

Raman Baskaran: Great idea... I think in 10 years' time, we can really put things together... and politics can't be mixed with sport...
