The family of deceased political aide Teoh Beng Hock today filed an application to exhume his body so that a second post-mortem can be carried out by renowned Thai pathologist Pornthip Rojanasunand.

NONE Lawyer Gobind Singh ( left ), who is holding a watching brief for the family at the inquest, filed the application at the Shah Alam Magistrates' Court registry at 3.35pm.

He said Teoh's family had instructed him to make the application to the coroner so that an exhumation can be done as soon as possible.

The application was made under Section 335 of the Criminal Procedure Code and supported by an affidavit by Teoh's brother Meng Kee.

After filing the application, Gobind said that several questions had cropped up following Porntip's testimony last week, especially on matters relating to injuries to Teoh's neck and anus.

The lawyer added that only a fresh post-mortem can clear all doubts relating to Teoh's death.

"We do not want this to be made an issue," he said.

"We also want to prevent confusion in the matter," he added.

Procedure can be done next month

He also said that Pornthip will be coming to Kuala Lumpur for a conference next month and hoped that she could perform the post-mortem then,

Gobind also hoped the Attorney General's Chambers would render all assistance to provide a place and medical personnel to help Porntip in the post-mortem.

Teoh's sister Lee Lan told Malaysiakini on Sunday that the family hoped that the new post-mortem can "reveal the truth" behind her brother's untimely death.

She said the family had been mulling the possibility of a second post-mortem since the start of the inquest into Teoh's death, and Pornthip's revelation that there was a "80 percent" probability that Teoh's death was homicide sealed their decision.
