Online news organisation Malaysiakini , in conjunction with its 10 th year anniversary which falls on Nov 20, treated its subscribers to a movie preview at the GSC Mid Valley cinema yesterday.

NONE The subscribers were given a special preview show of the movie 2012 , a disaster movie about the end of the world. The movie is only slated for global release on Nov 12.

About 200 people enjoyed the movie at two cinema halls which were specifically blocked for the use of Malaysiakini subscribers.

Also present were Malaysiakini staff as well as celebrities who are slated to perform at the Malaysiakini Annual Dinner (MAD) on Nov 28.

The celebrities who graced the preview were Kraft (who is a recipient of the VIMA 2009 Voize Creative Music Fund), rising teen sensation Amanda Imani and TV personality Will Quah. Quah and Daphne Iking are the hosts of the MAD.

"This is one of our ways to express our appreciation to our subscribers," said Malaysiakini 's CEO Premesh Chandran.

NONE Below are the reactions from some of the subscribers and celebrities:

Teh Beng Hwa, 67, long-time subscriber

There's a vast improvement since I first subscribed to Malaysiakini . In fact, the minute I switch on my computer, the first site I go to is Malaysiakini to see the latest news.

My hope for Malaysiakini is (for it) to be even more daring and I'm looking forward to more impartial news.

Usha Devi, an avid reader

NONE I think Malaysiakini is a very interesting site where we can read up on things about Malaysia and there's no camouflaged news, and I think that it is really good.

Gurmit Singh, subscriber

I get certain news that I don't get in the mainstream newspapers and some better analysis perhaps in an alternate view. I hope Malaysiakini can continue to survive and do better and be self reliant.

Will Quah, TV personality and MAD host

I am looking forward for the (Malaysiakini's 10th anniversary) dinner. It's going to be really exciting. For the first time I get to host in front of a room of like-minded people.

I think there are a lot of people out there who are like me; social trouble-shooters. I think it's going to be good fun and very exciting.

NONE Amanda Imani, pop singer

I'll be singing an English number and a Malay song at the Malaysiakini annual dinner. I might add in more for a surprise.

Choong Mei Ching, subscriber

As a subscriber for more than a year and half, I am happy to be invited for the 2012 screening.

I really enjoy reading the news on Malaysiakini and getting to know the stories from the other side.

On 2012: I believe that the world will come to an end if we do not do our part as a human race, be it environmentally or in the political-economical system.

Poon Kai Chong, long-time subscriber

Every year Malaysiakini is getting better. The news is better. The good thing is, Malaysiakini has balanced views.

NONE On 2012: I don't believe that the world will end soon. It's purely entertainment. If it really happens, I would just go on living as usual because you cannot run away.

Chan Hoi Chong, subscriber

I don't think the world will come to an end in 2012. The movie itself is a pure entertainment.

NONE Malaysiakini is celebrating its 10th year anniversary on Saturday, Nov 28 with a gala dinner at the Sime Darby Convention Centre in Bukit Kiara. Be there! Seats available from RM100.
