Thumbs-up for Nik Aziz to lead Pakatan

your say 'It's time to try a new strategy and this also gives ample time for Anwar to settle his numerous court cases. Anwar's biggest 'enemy' now is time - he hasn't got enough time...'

Pakatan en route to victory or disaster?

Zubir: I beg to differ with some of Zaid Ibrahim's statements but support some others. Nik Aziz Nik Mat may lead Pakatan Rakyat, but just for getting the support of the people, especially the rural Malays.

But as for the office of prime minister should Pakatan win, Anwar Ibrahim is the best bet due to his experience as deputy prime minister, knowledge, leadership skills interpersonal skills and contacts internationally and domestically.

It's not leaders that need to be changed. In Malaysian politics, the people shape the character of their leaders. If the people favour corruption, the leader will be corrupt. If the people want honesty, the leader will be more honest.

Most corrupt communities will do whatever it takes to gain something and their respective leaders will follow their ways as long as the people continue to do so. For example, in Umno, the cleaner you are, the worse or more ineffective leader you will be. Like it or not, the mindset of the people needs to be changed before their leaders will follow suit.

Dinish K: Nik Aziz should head Pakatan. Then Pakatan can attract rural Malay support in order to overcome BN. Moreover, there is no way they can attack Nik Aziz in a manner similar to what they are doing now to Anwar Ibrahim.

Brij Jayaram Kathiravelu: Bravo, I'm all for Nik Aziz heading Pakatan. It's time to try a new strategy and this also gives ample time for Anwar to settle his numerous court cases. Anwar's biggest 'enemy' now is time - he hasn't got enough time to devote to both his pending court cases and his efforts to lead a front to claim the federal government.

Zainal: Umno's biggest nightmare... Nik Aziz to head Pakatan Rakyat.

Dominic Seow: I strongly believe Zaid should head Pakatan. Zaid is capable, and possesses a solid background and vast experience. I found his article and comments to be encouraging. How nice if Malaysia can produce more leaders of Zaid's caliber. Syabas Zaid, and do provide guidance to Pakatan from time to time.

Camverra Jose Maliamauv: I cannot agree more with Zaid Ibrahim. These have been my views all along as well. Perhaps it is too difficult for the older generation in these parties to embrace these ideas. Maybe all the Youth components of these respective parties can start to work on this? The young are more receptive to change...

Rayfire: Here's a leader with realistic goals in mind, and is willing to consider all possibilities for the benefit of the masses, unlike some with personal or religious agendas. I would hope to see some real changes happen rather than superficial ones like those implemented by BN.

What is the point of pushing for a coalition when they are constantly in collision with one another? Change must happen willingly and not forced to happen. I just hope all components of Pakatan will realise this.

In the last round, they banked on people's frustrations. In the next round, however, people will want to see performance, and all these internal problems and interparty bickering is not doing any good to Pakatan at all.

By the way, please do something about extremists and ‘frogs' in Pakatan. The insincere patch-up between Zukifli Noordin and RSivarasa reminds me of BN's antics in portraying its so-called ‘oneness'. Pakatan, weed out the thorns and nourish the roses, if you want to step into Putrajaya!

Chow Yew Long: If the opposition really wants to kick Umno out of Putrajaya, they should listen to what Zaid is saying. I'm sure the PAS leader can do that but not sure about Anwar Ibrahim and Lim Kit Siang. Both of them are shortsighted.

Kgan: Zaid has laid out a road map to Putrajaya for Pakatan. An electoral pact is just not enough to wrest power from the BN behemoth. A cohesive coalition is the only possible way. The biggest obstacle to Putrajaya is not BN but the opposition parties themselves.

Malaysians are sick and tired of BN's corruption and abuses. They are ready for change but there must be a viable alternative to BN, not a bunch of squabbling parties. Pakatan must show that they can be that alternative and then the crown is theirs.
