Another 'political landmine' for Penang?

vox populi small thumbnail 'One can't help but be suspicious that the federal government is deliberately creating another political landmine for the Penang government to step on. Look at how the Kampung Buah Pala issue played out.'

Penang , federal gov't at war over military runway project

Ong Guan Sin: One can't help but be suspicious that the federal government is deliberately creating another political landmine for the Penang state government to step on. Look at how the Kampung Buah Pala issue played out.

Naziman: These Umno/BN politicos are nothing if not cunning and ruthless. Often Pakatan Rakyat leaders are caught off guard simply because nobody expects to be constantly sabotaged and undermined by sore losers who take their cue from a certain Botox-faced Javanese dentist.

They are acting like a totally immature bunch of brigands and pirates. After 50 years of arrogant and incompetent misrule, they refuse to graciously accept electoral defeat.

What a cynical and lame excuse - national defence! Against who, the Indonesians? Speak the truth now - you just want another squatter issue on Lim Guan Eng's hands. Umno is despicable.

Croniq: With the present Penang government's propensity and perverse fondness for displacing its rakyat, Lim Guan Eng should thank the federal government for allowing him to do what he likes best instead of whining.

Watcher: State federal development director Nik Ali Mat Yunus, you are silly. The project was shelved 10 years ago when BN controlled the Penang government. Pakatan has only recently captured the state government. How would they know about this shelved project?

Ku Li: Loss of faith undermining nation

Tkc: How I wish that Malaysians could elect their leaders through direct presidential elections. A Tengku Razaleigh/Zaid Ibrahim ticket would be wonderful for our beloved country.

Tan Teng Wah: Ku Li has missed out one root cause that has significantly contributed to the present situation. The country is blessed with a variety of natural resources and cultivable lands which could quite effortlessly be transformed into wealth.

Such luxury has been taken for granted and not treasured as scarce commodities so much so that prudence has always been thrown to the wind.

Those holding the levers of power not only unhesitatingly squandered away these natural endowments but also blatantly and unabashedly enriched themselves and their cronies from them.

In order to stay in power, these politicians conveniently and unscrupulously destroyed all democratic safeguards that stood in their way and dismantled all check-and-balance measures that hitherto was in place.

Keturunan Malaysia: I remember the time when Ku Li, Musa Hitam, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Rais Yatim went around the country making speeches when they took on Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

I still keep the videotapes of them delivering their speeches. As history played out, he lost by a mere 43 votes and many Kelantanese cried their hearts out.

Had just 22 of those 43 voted the other way, Ku Li would have won by one vote - a simple majority, if you will - and Malaysia and Malaysians would have taken a different route to the present, for better or worst.

With the sour mood many are in now, that may have been a better outcome. The people just want change.
