Billions gone: 'Plenty for MACC to do in S'wak'
Published:  Nov 30, 2009 8:01 AM

vox populi small thumbnail 'Sarawak is one of the most corrupt states. If the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency has the guts, there is plenty of work for them to do.'

S'wak probes claims of huge graft

Freemsia: Who wants to take a bet that nothing will be done and no arrests made (just like the current PKFZ fiasco)?

Ben: Sarawak is one of the most corrupt state. If MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency) has the guts, there is plenty of work for them to do.

Tony: How about starting the investigation right from the top? All the boast (by the state government) about spending ahead of schedule is just empty talk when 60 percent of the rakyat money disappeared into thin air. So much cannot just disappear without the BN leaders working in cahoots with the ‘buayas'. Our money is treated like their own.

Harry Koay: Sarawakians treat this sort of news like changing underwear everyday. Corruption is a norm in the state. As long as (Chief Minister) Taib Mahmud and BN are in power, more and more public funds will go missing.

MACC, win some integrity by pressing charges against the big fish... and everyone knows who is the "biggest fish" in Sarawak.

Tutom: The construction of the new DUN (state assembly) building is a very clear case of corruption. The job was not tendered out, but awarded or given to a Taib-related company for RM300 million and subcontracted to a Chinese consortium for RM230 million, with Taib and cronies making RM70 million. Is this not corruption and misuse of power?

Bukit Antarabangsa report leaked online

Saengch: Google "BA landslide report Vol1.pdf" in both quotation marks.

Roti John: I managed to download the report. Wonder why the report is so secret. Maybe to protect one from the liabilities?

Dr Jacob George: Is OSA a tool to cover up incompetence, corruption and abuse? This is a mockery of all things held sacred!

And here comes the difficult part

James Lim: Tears come impulsively to my eyes reading this piece. There is no greater responsibility than to write the truth, the torch of true independence.

I will always support independent mouthpieces like Malaysiakini as long as they continue to bear the torch of true independence - the truth. I suggest Malaysiakini sets up a trust fund where people can donate to it to keep press freedom alive, in addition to the monthly subscription fees.

As for me, it is already in my will that 90 percent of my wealth will be donated to charities. Malaysiakini can be one of the recipients.

P Dev Anand Pillai: Malaysiakini , Steven Gan and Premesh Chandran, you both are what Malaysia of the near future should be, bold and fearless with the ability to think out of the box which we have feared all this while due to the worry of repercussions from the state.

It has indeed been a struggle and the time has come for the other side of the coin to make its value known to the people. What could not have been done through the normal processes of parliamentary democracy has been done by you because you found a way to free the minds of the people who have for so long been indoctrinated beyond help due to the successful use of threat and coercion.

You went to the people and the people in turn have accepted you. Syabas to the both of you.

Doc: Thank you Malaysiakini for your work over the past 10 years. Since I have started reading Malaysiakini over the last year, I hardly read the local newsprint except for maybe the astrology section, which is more accurate then their local political news.

My reliance on anti-nausea medication after reading the local newspapers have also stopped. Keep up the good work, Malaysiakini .

Arthur A: Thank you, thank you, thank you, Malaysiakini . You have done a great job in bringing news to Malaysians and the world.

But you must never never rest on your laurels, you still must plough ahead for there will be more turbulent times as BN's control over the media is slipping very quickly and their propaganda machinery is not what it used to be. Let the other media imitate you but you will still be in the forefront of reporting unbiased news.

Magnus: Lao Tzu also said: "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."

So fish for Truth. And teach the good-hearted Malaysians how to fish for Truth too, and how to use that Truth for self-liberation from the lies that shackle them in so many unnecessary chains and strife. Because the Truth really does set you free.

Gk: Finally, a moment ago, I was able to congratulate Malaysiakini in person. I am looking forward to another 10 excellent years in impartial, independent journalism from Malaysiakini . Bravo.

Thomas Foo: You have done a great job. We will continue to lend our support and encourage others to subscribe too. Together we can. Together we will.
