Najib and Bala's 'frivolous' statements

vox populi small thumbnail 'Najib says ‘frivolous' and we are expected to, and supposed to, accept it. And he does not have to explain why it is frivolous. Or how it is that he knows that it is frivolous.'

Najib dismisses Bala's claims as 'frivolous'

Chuath: "I don't entertain frivolous statements," said Prime Minister Najib Razak. But Anwar Ibrahim could not say that and he is continuously taken to court to prove his innocence.

Najib has a moral obligation to show that we can trust him. If his words are true then he should have no fear to be investigated. Najib should be treated under the law the same as other citizens who, until recently, had to be taken in and interrogated even after office hours although there were no such serious accusations and 'evidence' against them.

Ong: Some definitions of ‘frivolous':

1) "not serious or sensible in content, attitude, or behaviour, silly"

2) "unworthy of serious or sensible treatment, unimportant"

Besides the above definitions, I also looked at some others and notice that there is no mention of words such as "false" or "untrue" in all the definitions. Therefore "frivolous statements" are not "false statements". But to Najib, the alleged act of bribing someone to withhold evidence is merely a frivolous act, nothing serious.

Teh: ‘Frivolous': meaning paltry, trifling, lacking seriousness. Private investigator P Balasubramaniam has accused Najib's wife and his brother of forcing him to change a legal statutory declaration. There is nothing frivolous about this.

The whole country is putting him, his wife and his brother under a microscope. There is nothing frivolous about this either. He just cannot just brush it off as "frivolous" and expect it to go away. He needs to show some real leadership before this thing "blows" in his face.

Paul Warren: This is the best kind of response from someone in Najib's position can give. After all, as PM he is already in an elevated position. He can be patronising. He says "frivolous" and we are expected to, and supposed to, accept it. And he does not have to explain why it is frivolous. Or how it is that he knows that it is frivolous.

And as good subordinates, we are not to question his wisdom when he attributes "frivolous" to Bala's allegations. Here on, it is expected that MSM (mainstream media) and everyone else too refer to Bala's allegations with the adjective "frivolous" before the word "allegation"! Because Najib, our prime minister, has already branded it such. So citizens, remember that!

Alfred Charles: A true PM who wants to uphold the truth and justice should not judge himself but call upon the police to immediately investigate into the allegations made against him by PI Bala. How is that the PM can speak on behalf of his brother, Nazim?

m2128: Dear Mr PM, if you are innocent, immediately set up a royal commission to clear your name. Why wait?

White Knight: The PM has to continue denying all these allegations levelled at him. What else to expect when such serious allegations are made. The truth will see the light of day in time to come, and for sure, justice will prevail.

Love 1 Malaysia: PM, the accusation is very, very serious. Not only all Malaysians but the whole world are waiting for you to clear your name. Till then do not blame the rakyat for believing that what Bala said is true. We do not want our prime minister to have such accusations hanging over him.

Arthur A: Dear Mr PM, Bala did not make any frivolous statements. In his first affidavit, he said that you and your wife were involved. This is a very, very serious allegations. You are the head of our country. We look upon you for your leadership in leading our country to prosperity and comfort. How can you leave such allegations unanswered?

You should use the full force of the police, MACC and the army to locate this Bala. Haul him up and charge him for defamation and throw the full might of your legal books on him. And if Bala is hiding in Thailand or India, use all the resources of your AG's office to find out some extradiction code to bring Bala back to justice.

New commission boss vows to restore MACC's credibility

Raja Rajan: Abu Kassim Mohamed says he wanted to restore MACC credibility, which means he had openly admitted that the anti-graft agency's reputation is at its lowest ebb.

But as the deputy chief commissioner, Abu Kassim too was part of the team that brought public odium to MACC. So how is he going to restore the agency's credibility and change the negative public perception?

Don't tell me, he is going to pull up Rosmah Mansor and ask her about her alleged bribe to private eye Bala to disappear last year.

Yuvan: The new incoming chief of MACC says he will introduce several plans and measures to "redeem MACC's integrity and public confidence". And so he admits that MACC had lost its integrity and public confidence. Good.

But MACC cannot redeem public confidence unless and until it can show that it is fully independent, transparent and accountable for all its actions without fear or favour. People are not stupid anymore to listen to all this fancy talk of "new plans and measures".

There are so many multi-million ringgit scandals involving politicians and public figures. And scandals of abuse of power and authority, some of which are simply "collecting dust" for so many years now. What is point in MACC saying that the "files are still open". MACC can go on investigating and keep the files "open" forever.

There is no way it can redeem its integrity and confidence of the people until the day it can drag these "big guns" to court and charge them for their greed and abuse. MACC must walk the talk.

Nizar awaits Federal Court judgment

Multi Racial: It is about time the judges bring back integrity and dignity to the judiciary. Do what is right for the country. Return power to Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin and his Pakatan Rakyat team who were elected by Perakians. Let Nizar go back to Perakians for a new mandate. There is no other option but to do this.

Perakian: What are the judges waiting for? If it was not because of this Perak crisis, I wouldn't have had the opportunity to learn about the court systems and the judiciary as well as how it could be misused in Malaysia. Also, we now know that judges are not at all independent.

Independent media essential in democratic society

Yobama: Sorry Khairy, DSAI (Anwar Ibrahim) has beaten you in extending his congratulatory message to Malaysiakini .

Anyway, it's good to know that you also read Malaysiakini , and not only Utusan M'siakuno, which has become an irritation to Najib, your boss in Umno. Najib is trying very hard to bring all Malaysians together, but U.M'siakuno is trying hard to split Malaysians according to race, and championing only 1Race, not 1Malaysia.

As Umno Youth chief, why don't you try to help U.M'siakuno find itself again and realise how the country has changed over the years, but especially after the 12th general election. Tell the editors of U.Msiakuno not to be afraid of their 'bayang-bayang' (shadow)!
