your say 'When you have a government that can't cut down on financial wastage and curb corruption, the next best thing is to tax the rakyat and squeeze them further.'

Unpopular GST bill tabled for first reading

Habib RAK: Tony Pua from DAP had already articulated this matter very well . He has clearly pointed out that it is not the time to introduce GST as this juncture.

What needs to be done first is to get rid of the all the wastage, overpricing, plundering and stealing from the national coffers. The savings from these areas will generate more revenue than from GST.

Camverra Jose Maliamauv: I do not understand one aspect of this GST and would appreciate it if anyone could help explain. It is said that the GST rate will be 4 percent, which is lower than the current sales and services tax.

In that case, how will the government earn extra RM1 billion revenue if the rate is lower than the existing tax?

Kgan: Some proponents of GST have touted the 4 percent rate as lower than the 10 percent sales tax which it will replace. But sales tax is levied at source on manufacturers and importers on nett prices while the GST rate must be multiplied by the mark-up from source to consumer.

Furthermore, GST will affect a far wider range of goods and services than sales tax. Don't forget 4 percent is only the starting rate, it is set to go up as oil revenue decreases and BN needs ever more money to fund its corruption.

Doc: RM1 billion extra money for the government to waste. I bet the Umnoputras will be made very happy with more money going into their pockets.

Why can't the government curb financial wastage and corruption to save more money is beyond my comprehension. When you have a government that can't cut down on financial wastage and curb corruption, the next best thing is to tax the rakyat and squeeze them further.

M'sian: From next year onwards, we can expect more opposition politician to change camps. The government will have more money to buy these people, while the tax paid is wasted on white elephant such as the PKFZ and double-rail projects.

Ronnie: The unpopular fuel price hike cost Tun AAB (Abdullah Ahmad Badawi) his PM's job. Has BN not learn anything from that?

The RM50 tax for each credit card is already making the middle-income group grumbles. The ‘no bonus' has made the civil servants unhappy. Now the icing on the cake.

The GST will hit all Malaysians - even the poor and non-taxable group, including the retirees. If PM Najib Razak still haven't woke up, this GST thing could prove to be his folly in the next general election.

SxyBB: If you need money there's lots of way to earn or save. I would urge the government to scrap National Service camps, review all toll concessions, water supply deals, IPP deals and all the other shitty things done in the past. Use this money to build good transport like rail and road.

Can the government explain how inflation will not happen after implementing GST? Will there be GST when you pay medical bill, education fees, water, electricity, telephone and also electronic banking services?
