'A developed status is basically achieved by the people together with farsighted governmental policies and governance. It is not going to happen just because the government of the day says so'.
'Vision 2020 likely to be put back by 10 years'
Leong SK : Perhaps10 years is too short an estimate. Moving forward could be challenging as we are shackled by having to undo the damage of the past. Vision 2020 envisages a united, technologically-advanced country.
But our unity has eroded since the 80s with politicians putting the majority under a siege mentality. Thailand has a more successful auto industry and they can buy imported cars at half the cost as they don't have this AP scheme thingy.
Look at our nurse to patient ratio and doctor to patient ratio; it is far below the levels set by WHO. Quality of education drops when teachers teach large classes and this partly explains the state of English. The judiciary and the police command less respect these days. Human capital is deficient.
Pak Lah and now Najib Abdul Razak is left carrying the baby or a rather sick baby and just to undo the past damage may take time, let alone getting ahead. Today we are behind Thailand and even war-torn Vietnam according to some economists.
Wira: Face this fact. There is no developed country on this earth today that practises favouritism for its majority race on the basis of skin colour because such a system inherently messes up the competitiveness of a country.
The developed status of a country is basically achieved by its people with farsighted governmental policies and governance. It is not going to happen just because the government of the day says so. More so if your best brains are emigrating to be replaced by semi-illiterates from your neighbours' places.
Mahathir book too hot for authorities
Disgusted: Looks like Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is protecting the truth about ‘The Great Dictator' from coming out in this book. A case of ‘I scratch your back and you scratch mine'. Anyway, its not much of a secret now.
Thanks to the Internet, all Malaysians know what the country's most racist de facto king and dictator did for 22 years.
Black Mamba: The Malaysian government obviously is living in the Dark Ages. With the advancement of today's information technology, they can well sit on the hard copies until their posteriors become sore!
Kickderobbers: The publishers should sell the book through the Internet so that all and sundry can see the con game of a racist leader.
Chee Hoe Siew: MACC, please go to work... Now you can interrogate Dr Mahathir Mohamad after 6pm.
Najib wants at least US$200 bil from rich nations
Lim Chong Leong: What is US$200 billion when in the last 20 years, Umno has already squandered US$100 billion ? And why shouldn't Najib talk about rhetoric when his government is all about rhetoric?
And does he actually understand the meaning of political commitment when he has shown none especially in the combat of corruption?
SunShine1: If those cronies stop illegal logging ie, raping the land of the Penan and the jungles all over Malaysia., then only can we talk about climate change.
KJ Lim: Fix the corruption problems in our nation first. If not, no matter how much money is ‘pumped in' by the developed nations, that money will become a case of ‘now you see it, now you don't'.
Doc: ‘Najib had announced that Malaysia had agreed to a 40 percent reduction in carbon dioxide emission by year 2020'.
Not sure where our Mr PM got this figure of ‘40%' from. He did not mention in which areas of Malaysia's industry or manufacturing these cuts are going to come from.
I guess if the BN politicians stop talking rubbish over the next few years and concentrate on only making comments that make sense (which are far and few between). I guess this 40% may be achievable from reducing unnecessary CO2 emissions from their mouths with all this unnecessary talk.
Habib RAK: AB Sulaiman, perhaps if you stop expecting anything from the ‘ulama', you can overcome your ‘spirit of despondence'. True, the problem is not Islam but the Muslims. Indeed, the Muslims badly need an awakening.
New shoots and buds are sprouting and in time, the Muslims will see the light. In the meanwhile, let's keep working on it for a better world for all mankind. Happy New Year (Maal Hijrah) to all.
