Penang CM hit by sedition probe, DAP outraged

Kgan: This is old intimidation methods meet new politics. The old methods don't work anymore, they just make the public disgusted to be treated like idiots. What is so seditious to say that Teoh Beng Hock was murdered in the face of strong suspicion?

Any reasonable person will come to the same conclusion. Taking action to intimidate LGE (Lim Guan Eng) only confirms that the establishment is afraid of the truth being spoken.

Jbss: This is another classic example of selective investigations by an Umno-friendly enforcement agency. Solving the case of the missing RM100 million jet fighter engines (already taken two years), investigating the former Selangor MB's ill-gotten gains (also taken two years), and solving the murders of young girls by possibly a serial killer(s) and countless criminal cases have to take the back seat.

Utter Clowns: Selangor police chief Khalid Abu Bakar is making himself an absolute clown, and his handlers appear to be even clumsier and ham-fisted. They are already on the losing side of the publicity ledger. No one in the right mind would believe that Teoh died by his own hands, or accidently. Given this, the clowns are digging themselves ever deeper.

Another express bus tragedy, 10 killed

NoLongerFools: There are only two things to blame - poorly-maintained buses and the recklessness of our Malaysian superdrivers! Double-decker buses are most unsafe when speeding on the highway.

Loyal Malaysian: When the human elements of a tragedy like this is highlighted, I can only but extend our sympathies to the bereaved families. I wonder how many more times will these tragedies play out before the government take serious steps to improve safety of the passengers using these long-distance express buses.

The touted black boxes are lost in the dark, alarms that sound when the speed limit is exceeded or whatever that may be effective are only talked about after each tragedy. In the meantime, more lives are lost, more families are thrown into despair as the government show how ineffective it is in combating this seemingly simple matter!

Tan Min Fui: If you are in a hurry to travel interstate, take a ride on these express buses. They are really "express" in the true meaning of the word. I have witnessed them going faster than any vehicle on the highway, overtaking from all lanes - outer, inner and middle. Really reckless!

What is there to fear? There is no enforcement! Any ‘operasi' that the Transport Department conducts last one week or two and then, it's back to normal.

13th GE!: Express buses in Malaysia have the maximum speed of 90km/hr. This is painted on the back of the buses, but on the highways you can see them speeding at 130-140km/hr. If it's a double-decker bus, the center of gravity is much higher, hence if you take a corner at higher speeds, the bus will skid. It's simple physics.

I blame the whole incident on lack of enforcement... which has always been the case. Duit kopi/bribes here and there leads to a higher death toll.

Sentinel: How many more must die before you really do something, Najib?

    Najib wants generosity, compassion

Maroondah: Mr PM, that would be so touching, if only your government would stop doing things that are contrary to what you've said. The last time I checked, your government confiscated bibles meant for non-Malays, detained Sunday school literature, snatched a few corpses, apparently enforced a ban on new churches and the use of the term ‘Allah'.

Do you not know ‘Allah' is universal, both in terminology and theology? Now, if you want us to take you seriously, please walk the talk.

X'roy: His inability to act to stem out body snatching, forced conversions and freedom of religion as enshrined in our constitution makes these wishes during religious festivals empty words.

Antihoodwinkers: He is talking about compassion and caring for the poor and needy now. How thoughtful of him. But hey, what about donating some of the billions of commissions earned from the defence contracts to the poor on this day of compassion? Submarines, jets, helicopters, jet engines, national service, tanks, etc, belong to the people you know.

Lusiapa: That the PM's Christmas message should invite such cynical comments from Malaysiakini readers is not the least surprising. In fact, it only reaffirms the public perception that the PM, though in office for less than a year, no longer has the moral authority to espouse such virtuous attributes as compassion, sharing, generosity, goodwill, etc, at times of national festivities like Christmas.

The recent revelation of arrogance and alleged improprieties involving his wife further strengthen this view. Malaysians have the right to expect our head of government not to belch out nonsensical statements to hoodwink them even in ordinary times.
