'Witness intimidation and harassment' by MACC

vox populi small thumbnail 'The MACC have their own pathologist representing them from the UK. So what are they really afraid of?'

Dr Pornthip may pull out of Teoh's inquest

Cala: The prime suspect is throwing mud. It is almost looks like the MACC is scared at the way things are progressing. Simply put, if one is not guilty, or at least feeling guilty, would one be concerned with Dr Pornthip Rojanasunand's up and coming report? Remember, too, the MACC have their own pathologist representing them from the UK. So what are they really afraid of?

Is it not true that it is a matter of time that the truth will reveal itself? Or are they scared of their own ghost? In the worse case scenario, Dr Pornthip could still disclose her findings elsewhere in the event that she refuses to continue working for the inquest citing intimidation from the police. Ultimately, the government must decide on the order of priority: i) Their own skin, or ii) the image of MACC.

Ahmad Kamal: It is more than obvious that all obstacles are placed in the attempt to seek the truth to Teoh's demise. That should tell a story.

Paul Warren: Smart move on the part of MACC - to frighten off the ‘hangman' that is going to put the ‘noose' around their necks. Will the Umno-beholden courts dare come out to guarantee her protection? Somehow I don't think so.

Noo Gonk: As for the pathologists' reports, I wonder whether the ‘score' will be 2-1. But the majority of the people know the truth, the real verdict, and it will be known one day no matter how hard some people may try to distort it.

Why: Let's start with Lim Guan Eng. He should not have commented on the case. He is a chief minister and his words carry weight. Responsible leaders do not do this, especially when they champion causes standing on the high moral ground. Be focused when you ask for heads to roll. Nobody harassed anybody and the coroner will also be interested to know who told Guan Eng that Teoh Beng Hock was killed.

Lim Chong Leong: The MACC police report against Dr Pornthip amounts to witness intimidation and harassment. That constitutes contempt of the inquest. The Teoh family's legal representatives should apply for the protection of their witnesses against such harassment and jail those who try to obstruct the due process of law.

Nicholas Lim: Dr Pornthip, I hope you will not be cowed by the cowardly actions of the MACC. The court of public opinion will be on your side if you are arrested by the police. I believe that you will not be harmed as the international community is also watching this case.

Negeri MB 'flogged' in public

Disgusted: All these menteri besar and chief ministers are untouchable as they are the source of support for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to hold on to power. The BN people are shoving money overseas to private bank accounts to finance their next general election as well as a passport for them to flee should they lose the next election.

Malaysia is close to bankruptcy. And yet Najib's government is trying to spend its way out of the economy by increasing taxes, removing subsidies and raising bonds. All sorts of bond were raised and for the first time, take-up quotas drawn along the usual racial lines have been removed.

Bonds are actually IOUs. The present government is passing its current problem to the future generation. If Pakatan Rakyat takes over, it will be Pakatan who is faced with the repayment headache. The only permanent fixture is that the rakyat is at the losing end.

Black Mamba: Strange as it may be. Here is an allegation of a seating menteri besar transferring RM10 million abroad illegally and the MACC turns a blind eye. But they are quick to nab opposition members for legitimate payments of a few thousands for work done and this has resulted in death of people under their custody.

Definitely, the public has lost hope in the enforcement institutions. Come the next general election, we will take BN beyond the threshold of history.

Despite his views, Ku Li still loyal to Umno

Jbss: Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah knows Umno is corrupt to the core. Corruption (or money politics as they would like to term it), politics of patronage and handouts are part of the Umno culture. He knows that reforms would have to involve changing the mindset of the leaders and members to rid themselves of these old habits, practices and expectations.

Sounds like he is still harbouring the hope of becoming the president of Umno one day and to reform from within. Too late for that Ku Li. Umno will, and can, never change.

Gk: I am skeptical of Ku Li's stand(s). Changing Umno's mindset from within is near impossible to me at this moment. Umno's mindset will never change, but the Malaysian's mindset including the Malays, have changed. If not, why did we see the tsunami of March 8, 2008? Just let Ku Li stay in Umno. That is his rightful abode.

Habib RAK: Tengku Razaleigh, when you agree to an interview, you should make your position clear. This is the only way the public can decide on whether to support you or not. At times, you give out views which are logical and welcomed by the people (those who are aligned to Pakatam or who are neutral) but at other times your views are typical of Umno double-speak. It's time for you to take a position, else, just hold your peace.

Mw: It seems like he is the same as any other Umno/BN leader after all. After all, the self- righteous drivel of the past few interviews, when asked point-blank in this interview to state a clear stand, he waffles and mumble irrelevancies.

Dood: Poor guy... he really thinks his place is still with Umno and he probably sincerely believes he can change this racist party and its members. He has been at it for years and years, and has little to show for his accomplishments.

In fact, he has even been vilified by his own party colleagues and probably laughed at in secret by his "friends" for his foolishness. What was that saying about the definition of insanity? That one keeps on doing the same thing over and over again but expect different results?

UdinTogel: I'd like Tengku Razaliegh to stay in Umno... as a trojan horse in BN.
