vox populi small thumbnail 'With crime so rampant that residents are setting up gated communities and ladies fear to carry handbags, the police are wasting resources to harass opposition politicians.'

Police file second report against S'gor exco

Cala: The police choose to be used as the tool of the executives. But the executives are not acting in the best interests of the people. Therefore, we now have a police force which is at loggerheads with the people. Change the executives. It is the ultimate solution to bring the police to be in line with the interest of the people.

Kgan: Such shameful harassment of opposition politicians. With crime so rampant, residents are setting up gated communities and women fear carrying their handbags on the streets. The police are wasting resources when they harass opposition politicians like this to serve their Umno masters. The people will show them who the real masters are at the next general election.

Amaso: Please, Royal Malaysian Police Force, mere statements from the opposition can make you run around like this? Please focus on fighting crime. No wonder bad elements are having a field day everyday. You are actually doing the opposition a very great favour - making them vote for Pakatan Rakyat in the 13 th general election.

KJ Lim: This is a waste of taxpayers' money. Real crimes are happening and criminals are on run in our society. Are Seri Kembangan state assemblyperson Ean Yong Hian Wah's statements really a threat to our police force?

Jimmy Ng: The police truly have no sense of shame. They continue to put our nation on the map for all the wrong reasons through all their clownish antics. They sorely lack the right focus and priorities. Going after opposition politicians for petty issues. Or are they just fulfilling their pledges to their political masters?

'Allah' row: Dr M says law cannot solve it

Anak Desa: Former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad said that in Peninsular Malaysia, nobody has heard of Christians using 'Allah' when speaking about God in the Malay language. He doesn't even know that Orang Asli of the Christian faith in Langkap and in Cameron Highlands invoke ‘Allah yang Maha Esa' (the One).

Win: I am a Roman Catholic and I have never referred to the Lord God as ‘Allah'. When we first heard the service given in Malay long ago, many of us were very taken aback at the reference to the Lord God as ‘Allah'. Because when I hear a person say ‘Allah', I immediately think he or she is a Muslim. And every time that happens, that person does turn out to be a Muslim.

We say God is great. Muslims say ‘Allahu Akbar'. I would be completely taken aback if I heard a non-Muslim say it. It is the use of the word in a particular place and by the people who recognise it as having a particular meaning to them - not the word itself - that matters. I agree with the Muslims of this country that only they should be using the word ‘Allah'.

SusahKes: Mahathir, when you named one of the national car models ‘Proton Iswara', did you know that ‘Iswara' is a religious term for Hindus? Can the Hindus throw a tantrum now because you used their word?

Mrs Leo: Since small, I have known that only the Muslims address their God as ‘Allah'. After my marriage to a Catholic, I started to hear the word ‘Allah' being used in church. To be honest, I don't feel comfortable. We can always use other names, such as ‘Yahweh', ‘God the Almighty', and many others.

I hope that our dear archbishop will leave this issue to rest. This does not mean we are cowards. We know that the High Court has allowed us to use the word but for the sake of peace, please leave the Muslims alone.

Raymond Lee: We've been singing the official Selangor anthem ‘Duli Yang Maha Mulia' since the 60s to 70s when we were still in school. In the lyrics are the words ‘Allah lanjutkan usia Tuanku'. Why is it now that the word ‘Allah' is exclusive only to Muslims?

DAP makes overture to Hindraf

Bangsar Observer: There is no use holding talks with the P Uthayakumar and P Waythamoorthy. It will be an absolute waste of time. They will insist that we are able to breathe fresh air only because of them and that we must be eternally grateful to them. Just ignore the pretenders who are turning into an embarrassment. Let them proceed with the court case. Truth will prevail.

Bozuka: If Penang Deputy Chief Minister II P Ramasamy and Sungkai state assemblyperson A Sivanesan's allegations against P Waythamoorthy involving misappropriating Hindraf funds are true, why retract them now? In other words, forget about the money and Indians, so long as DAP is in good terms with Hindraf? DAP is badmouthing the Hindraf brothers and they will have a price to pay.

Temenggong: This is a positive move. Uthaya is presenting a report in India on Malaysia being a racist country. If Pakatan Rakyat's Indian representatives can speak out forcefully on Indian issues such as the Hindu cemeteries, land allocation for temples, schools, etc, then there is no need for Hindraf to exist.

But Pakatan's Indian reps seem to be blindly following party policy on such Indian issues. Regarding the suit, Ramasamy and Sivanesan better back down and withdraw their malicious comments for any self-respecting party would sue when attacked.

Gandhi: Yes, this must go through. The meet must once and for all to iron out whatever issues and differences they have. There's no other choice - we Indians have to unite for the good of the younger generations. Replace MIC by all means as they can never do anything beneficial. Unity among us is very crucial to obtain for Indians to better their standard of living.

KSN: Hindraf has made their point very emphatically - that the Indians in Malaysia have been systematically discriminated against. The entire country took notice. Now, they can identify themselves with DAP or Pakatan or PAS, but for God's sake, stop talking merely about Hindus, Indians, etc. Talk of Malaysians and for all the poor in the country. The Indians will consequently benefit.

Teoh's family wants MACC officer cited for contempt

RubyStar: Back in the early 1970s when the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) was formed in Hong Kong, the corrupted police, triads and corporations were the ones intimidating the ICAC officers. In Malaysia, it seems the other way round.

Knee-jerk reactions like this will only gain the MACC notoriety for intimidating the rakyat. MACC must have a topnotch public relations. If the MACC can handle its public relations well, half the battle would have been won.
