your say The government has totally failed to handle this issue with care and wisdom. Instead of doing this, it see in this an opportunity to gain desperately-needed political support.’

Three churches fire-bombed

Kgan: After the dust has settled please don't mention ‘1Malaysia’ any more, especially from BN politicians. An empty slogan is one thing but a mocking parody of the real situation is another.

Al Atas: The government has totally failed to handle this issue with care and wisdom. Instead of doing this, it sees in this an opportunity to gain the desperately needed political support of the Malays by getting no less than the Prime Minister’s Department to be involved in filing an appeal at the appellate court and making a request for a stay-of-execution.

Even among the Malay clergy, there is no consensus on this issue. Let us make an immediate appeal to everybody to exercise great restraint and stop all these stupid acts whilst the issue is being sorted out .

To the Muslims. let me remind them that actually the Christians being ulul-al azmi (people of the Book’) and who are citizens of this country and who have been living in peaceful coexistence with all of us, should have both they and their places of worship protected and not destroyed.

Victor Johan: The Umno/BN government and the Royal Malaysian Police should/must call for an immediate ban on any planned demonstrations. Even the compound of all the mosques should be out-of-bound to intending demonstrators.

Mosques are for worshipers, not for those to assemble and create chaos. This is a very serious matter. Any failure to control this will only go to prove that the current government supports and condones these demonstrations. I need not say no more. The Malaysian rakyat at large are not stupid.

Ganasan Kailasanathan: The culprits for these church attacks should be arrested immediately and charged under the anti-terrorism law. It should also be determined if they have any links to international terrorist groups.

The executive should also take responsibility for their idiocy in interfering with the judiciary in handling this sensitive issue. Please stop the rot before we see another May 13. If you cannot handle this situation, please resign and call for fresh elections.

Samasama: ‘Flex your muscles’, Dr Mahathir Mohamad said. The ‘Ketuanan Melayu’ Umno leaders said nothing wrong with protests to express grievances. ‘Kerismuddin’ and Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak said ‘We cannot stop protests’.

Well, this is exactly what you all wished very much to happen. The home minister and Najib have all the resources and power to prevent these kind of incidents from happening but have done nothing. Najib the PM condemns the attacks? What a hypocrite.

Justgreat: Well, the chaos has started, supported by none other than Najib, the PM of Malaysia and aided by his cohorts Home Minister Hishamuddin Hussien Onn and Defence Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. These people want to sow hatred in the Muslim Malays.

They want to gauge whether there will be any retaliation from other quarters like from the Chinese, the indigenous people of Sabah and Sarawak and the Indians. If there is retaliation, they will convince the Muslim Malays that their rights are being challenged and they have to use force to curb the violence.

If the rest do not respond or retaliate, they would then tell their people that others dare not do anything because we have to 'kow tow' to them. Either way, we lose. Get out of Malaysia while we all can or plan to send your kids away. This country has gone to the dogs.

Rayfire: All rational-thinking Malaysians out there, let’s stay calm and safe. Don't respond. Umno is indirectly fanning this protest, let them do it, let this be a lesson for East Malaysians who continue to blindly support BN. A painful lesson it is but will be a most valuable one. Stay calm, let them do what they want, don't respond.

Let them show the world their ignorance. Let them put forth their racial sentiment above their religious one and let it be seen by the nation. Let this be a turning point for the nation to kick their butts out when 13 th general election comes!

KLeo: Something tells me that the perpetrators of these cowardly acts are just religious extremists not linked to the organisers of today’s demonstrations. They knew the attacks would put the nation on high alert and would close the door on any chance of holding the planned protests at mosques today.

And I doubt the arsonists were hired by Umno too. Two failed bombings with cheap homemade Molotov cocktails? We have so little information, people, we know almost nothing. Pointing fingers is just going to heat things up unnecessarily. I laud the church officials' calm and levelheaded responses.

Abdul Fareed Abdul Gafoor: A real Muslim would not do these acts. Acts of these nature are clearly prohibited in the Quran and also by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). These could be the work of troublemakers. Bring the perpetrators to book and don’t blame everything entirely on Umno.
