Keadilan today lodged a police report against Chief Justice Mohamed Dzaiddin Abdullah for alleged judicial misconduct, an hour after the Federal Court panel he headed dismissed ex-deputy premier Anwar Ibrahim appeal's against his corruption conviction.

The police report was based on the contents of a flyer which was distributed outside the court building in Kuala Lumpur this morning.

The flyer accused Dzaiddin of lobbying the support of chief secretary to the government, Samsudin Osman, for the extension of his term which expires on Sept 15.

The 65-year-old chief justice allegedly did this on two occasions during a game of golf in Ipoh, Perak, on June 29 and 30.

A bill to extend the retirement age for judges by two years has been proposed but is yet to be tabled in parliament.

The report also claimed the wedding of Dzaiddin's son at a hotel next month will be sponsored by the Hong Leong Group director, Quek Leng Chan.

These allegations have also been circulating on the Internet over the past few days.

Thorough investigation

Keadilan Youth vice-president Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin (centre), who was accompanied by some 50 supporters, lodged the report with the Dang Wangi police station in Jalan Campbell here at about 11.30am.

Also present were Keadilan vice-president Azmin Ali and Youth exco member Badrul Hisham Saharin.

"We do not know where the flyer came from but we already knew its contents from reformasi websites. We are worried by the allegations and we hope the police will conduct a thorough investigation," Shamsul stated in the report.

Earlier, Dzaiddin, Chief Judge of the High Courts of Sabah and Sarawak Steve Shim Lip Kiong and Federal Court judge Haidar Mohd Nor unanimously struck out Anwar's appeal against his corruption conviction handed by High Court judge S Augustine Paul in 1999.

The ex-deputy premier is serving a 15-year jail term for corruption and sodomy charges which he claims were concocted by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his cohorts to oust him.

Call on Bar Council

After the Federal Court judgment was announced today, the three Keadilan leaders and supporters marched to the police station.

Azmin wanted a larger crowd to follow but was stopped by Dang Wangi district police chief Mohd Bakri Zinin who told him "don't look for trouble".

When addressing the supporters, Azmin said: "I am ashamed to be a Malaysian. It is clear that Dzaiddin has his own interests here. I call on the police to give the people's rights back to them by investigating this matter

The Keadilan leader, who was Anwar's private secretary, also urged the Bar Council the leadership of the 10,000-strong Malaysian Bar to call for an extraordinary general meeting to convene on the matter.

In a related development, police detained a man for distributing the flyers outside the court building.

Bakri said he did not know the detainee's name but added that the man, who was sporting reformasi and Anwar badges, is 35 years old and has seven previous convictions.
