Church attacks: 'Offer cash reward to informers'

vox populi small thumbnail 'The easiest way to nab the culprits is to offer a RM500,000 reward to anyone who can come forward with information leading to the arrest of the assailants.'

Herald lawyer's office targeted in break-in

Mamat: It looks like the attacks are continuing unabated despite claims from the government that 'everything is under control'. The easiest way to nab the culprits is to offer a RM500,000 reward to anyone who can come forward with information leading to the arrest of the assailants.

The offer of the cash reward is justified as this is a national security matter. If need be, offer immunity - this would encourage the informers to ‘dob' in their friends.

Unless of course, the government is not really interested in going after the culprits for fear that some of them could be linked to Umno...

P Dev Anand Pillai: Again it will be the case of more naughty boys on the loose. They feel that by targeting the Herald lawyer, the matter will just go away but little do they realise that the whole world is watching.

These perpetrators perhaps know that no action will be taken against them even if 1,000 reports are lodged so it speaks volumes of their actions. It is not going to be easy to change an indoctrinated mindset but change must start somewhere, and it is individuals like these brave lawyers who must be saluted for their courage.

Multi Media: Don't worry, our beloved home minister said everything is under control. When he said that, then we have to believe him lah . There are only two possibilities. Firstly, he is really in total control as he knew who attempted to destroy some of those churches, or that he is ‘blur'.

Either way, Malaysians have been ‘screwed' big time. It means there are selfish politicians who are willing to go to great length to achieve what they want even if the price could be the country's unity.

What Else: What else can this be other than cowards bullying the righteous people to comply. But little do they know that this might spur Derek Fernandez and his likes to harden their resolve to build a better nation.

Open public interfaith dialogue a no-no

Daniel Collin Lazaroo: PM's Department deputy minister Mashitah Ibrahim is quite mistaken - people are upset of the court's ruling because of theological disputes or misunderstandings of their own faith. The problem is because of a lack of proper inter-religious dialogues or understanding, or because of what I perceive as religious intolerance. These are the causes - the court's ruling was just the straw that tipped the camel's back.

And as these are the real causes of the problem, a solution that addresses these causes is the only thing that will really work. Let's say the appeal court decides that the Herald can indeed use the term 'Allah' - does Mashitah really think that the Muslim parties so adamantly against the ruling will just stop their protest and accept the court's decision? Any person with a bit of common sense will tell you that the answer to that is 'no'.

Dood: "Malaysian Muslims take the issue very seriously, and the Herald should take note of this" - so just because someone takes an issue seriously, however irrationally, one should throw all sensibility out the window to appease the said people? Or is this some kind of subtle threat?

And why all this aversion towards having open discussions? If it's right, then people need to know and realise that. Just because something is "sensitive" doesn't mean you should shut it up. The truth is the truth, no matter how you try to hide it.

Loreburner: Using "uniqueness" as an excuse to suppress the minority for political gain is an untenable argument which reeks of its intellectual and moral bankruptcy. Indigenous Christians have been using ‘Allah' even before independence. Why is it that in 2010 we want to put a stop to it?

Morally, bad laws are not meant to be obeyed. The government may be able to stop the Herald from publishing using ‘Allah' but Christians who use Bahasa Malaysia will continue using ‘Allah'. Arresting such people will only strengthen the resolve of the community.

PM tells media to be extra careful with opposition

SusahKes: Why Mr PM? You worried that moderate Muslims will actually get the real, factual and educated picture of the issue at hand from PAS and PKR, instead of the emotional and politically intended responses that Umno has been putting up so far?

Chuath: Najib Razak should query the individuals who are causing tension by challenging the court decision in ways that are not in accordance to lawful procedures. This includes Umno ministers who make remarks that have no historical or legal substantiation.

Najib's problem-solving skill and conceptual skills are in grave doubt if he just choose to highlight the opposition as the one we should be careful of. He has to demonstrate that he is the prime minister, fair and just to all citizens, including members of the opposition.

Alexander Yuan: This is a joke, surely. You ask the media to be careful of the opposition, but say nothing about Utusan Malaysia's racist and spiteful articles? What are you smoking man?

Cops trawl the Net in search for church arsonists

Ravindranath: So I guess it's going to be another ‘kes tutup' because Google failed to come up with the relevant suspects.
