Support letters issued by state executive councillors and assemblypersons to members of the public are not considered as a form of corruption, Menteri Besar Dr Md Isa Sabu said.

He said that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission had not listed such letters as a type of corruption as these letters would not bring about any personal benefit to those who issued them.

Speaking at a special briefing by the MACC to BN representatives and senior officers at the Perlis state legislative building here, Md Isa nevertheless hoped that each executive council member and assemblyman would exercise caution when issuing such letters.

"Maybe the executive councillors or assemblymen have no corrupt intention but if they make one wrong move, their actions can be interpreted as giving or receiving bribes," he said.

Perlis MACC director Yusof Shamsudin said the special briefing was to enhance the understanding on the interpretation of corruption.
