Land fraud case: Lawyers to blame too

vox populi small thumbnail 'If only every lawyer is honest, this sad saga would not have played out on our soil. All we need are honest lawyers to verify the authenticity of every signature to prevent such injustice from occurring.'

Boonsom case: 'Sanity returns to judiciary?'

Alexander Yuan: Ten long years. Finally, someone came to their senses to right a wrong which had caused untold misery to those who lost their land via fraudulent means. Former chief justice Eusoff Chin's credibility is now totally gone. Those affected by his "unbelievable" decision should sue his pants off to serve as a warning to all judges.

Multi Racial: The Federal Court should go back to review all the cases handled by Eusoff Chin and those involving lawyer VK Lingam.

Ong: The judges and the land office have been blamed. However, another party jointly responsible for such fraud has been forgotten. All land transactions require documents that are prepared and attested to by lawyers. Without such documents, the transactions will not be accepted in the land office.

The only way such transactions can go through is that the lawyers are either negligent or had taken an active part in the fraud. Has the Bar Council investigated all the lawyers involved in the fraudulent transactions and determined how those lawyers prepared and attested to documents signed by people who are not the actual owners?

The party least to be blamed is the land office. If they have to inspect and investigate every transaction document submitted by lawyers, there will be chaos in the land registrar's office.

Cala: If only every lawyer is honest, this sad saga would not have played out on our soil. All we need are honest lawyers to verify the authenticity of every signature to prevent such injustice from occurring.

My advice is, if you have a piece of land, charge it to a bank for a small loan. In this way you are better protected because the bank has an interest in it. Every year a bank officer will remind you to pay your quit rent and assessment with respect to the said land and copies will be forwarded to him. Land-fraud syndicates prey on foreign absentee landowners.

Chan Kwee Chye: Is it too late for the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate if there was any element of corruption in the decision of those judges?

People of Chennai describe Najib as 'new hero'

Mydin Kutty: Bernama obviously did not report on the grilling Najib received from the opposition members of parliament both in New Delhi and Chennai when they called on Najib to answer the treatment of Indians in Malaysia.

Hindraf's Pravasi report was all over Indian media 10 days ago.

Nil: In an Asian setting, welcoming guests and visitors and making them feel welcomed is a normal and standard thing. What is so newsworthy about this bit of news? Civilised people do not go throwing mud cakes and rotten eggs, or burn churches and mosques.

Arun Paul: M Kurunanidhi and Najib Abdul Razak? It doesn't take a genius to figure out why these two 'businessmen' have gotten together; more so since former works minister S Samy Vellu is now out of the picture.

A little historical reminder: Karunanidhi has been indicted by the Sarkaria Commission over the Veeranam scheme project. Does all this make sense now?

Abil: Najib thinks that the majority of Indian Malaysians are from Tamil Nadu, hence his visit to Chennai to shore up his image so that Tamils here would cast their vote for BN.

Lee Tat Fatt: If the prime minister really wanted to win Indian votes, he should scrap the New Economic Policy and help all Malaysians. Only then would we be proud to be Malaysians.

NGOs explain how RM1.58 mil was spent

Faridah: It sounds like the NGOs gave the Tamil schools what in the end was really not a huge sum of money. Well done, and keep up the good work. May Allah bless you all.

CTTEO: Will the Umnoputras hounds be satisfied with this explanation? I doubt it. They are out for their pound of flesh and they will want to find faults and wrongdoings even when there are none.

RRRR: Accounts open for public scrutiny? This is something that Balkis (Wives of Selangor Assemblymen and MPs Welfare and Charity Organisation) members do not want. But that does not guarantee that the MACC will investigate.

Thanenthiran urged to bow out gracefully

Alison: Thanenthiran, you are a MMSP pioneer. Indians would have listened to you since you are not confrontational with BN. But I haven't heard you even pay lip service to Indian issues.

Soon SPM results will be out. Do you know how many Indian youths will end up in the wilderness or on the road to Simpang Renggam prison? Some will get precious few places in polytechnics or opt for community colleges. A few are in Form Six.

But what happens to the rest whose parents cannot afford private education? I bet you weren't even aware of the problem.

Ve Elanjelian: I guess running an organisation isn't such a cake-walk, after all. Thanenthiran, especially, isn't much of a thinker, mover or anything else of that sort. He probably had the guts, which presumably impressed Hindraf leader P Uthayakumar. But, apart from that, what does he have to offer?

So much expectations and hopes previously, are all dashed now (for MMSP at least). In a way, this is to be expected: how else would a hungry pack of dogs behave at the sight of a bone thrown at them?
