Former Selangor Menteri Besar Mohd Khir Toyo has filed a defamation suit against Sekinchan assemblyperson Ng Suee Lim, following allegations from Ng that a Balinese-style resort home in Shah Alam owned by Khir had cost RM24 million, an amount far exceeding his income as menteri besar.

NONE The Sekinchan assemblyperson confirmed he received Khir's summons yesterday, and said that he has appointed Kota Alam Shah assemblyperson M Manoharan to represent him.

"I will challenge the suit filed by Khir,” he said, adding he would reveal more details about the suit tomorrow.

Khir - who is now the opposition leader -  has been under scrutiny over the lavish new property in Shah Alam.

Ng claimed the 50,000 sq ft property was constructed at an estimated cost of RM20 million while the land was bought at a price of RM3.8 million, allegations which are strenuously denied by the former menteri besar who says he purchased both house and land for RM4 million.

Trading barbs

The two have traded barbs in and outside the state assembly over the allegations.

khir toyo mansion 060709 06 Khir's bungalow has been the subject of much discussion among people in Shah Alam, and following the allegations Khir offered Ng the opportunity to act as a real estate agent to sell the property.

Ng  took the opportunity to demand both an official letter from Khir appointing him as the agent along with the property’s keys, so that prospective buyers could view the property.

He had called on Khir to explain the source of his wealth before accusing the current state government of corruption, such as repeating claims that Khalid had misappropriated state funds to buy 48 cows for his constituents. Khir in response,  threatened to file suit against Ng, and did so today.
