Judiciary's 'gloom of sycophancy'

vox populi big thumbnail ‘Until the separation of powers principle is clearly and cogently applied, the judiciary will forever be cast in the gloom of sycophancy.’

Ousted Perak MB fears the end is nigh

Satinah Osman:

Expecting the court to rule in favour of Nizar is daydreaming. People know that there are too many ‘Augustine Pauls’ in the judiciary to let Pakatan win. What the people of Perak and the country want is a judgement based on the opinion of such judges as NH Chan.

The Federal Court should once and for all put the constitution in its proper place and firmly lay it down the rule that the judiciary has no right to interfere in the affairs of the legislature. Until the separation of powers principle is clearly and cogently applied, the judiciary will forever be cast in the gloom of sycophancy.

Professor: Umno/BN control the electronic, broadcast and print media. They have all the resources to spread ‘fitnah’ (slander), propaganda and confusion.

Mohd Nizar Jamaluddin, you have nothing. But going down personally and directly to the people is more effective. Go down to the people to explain the truth.

Inspektor Klueso:

Sir, you are doing just fine. Keep up the dignity and behave with honour and character. The rakyat have open hearts and minds. Operate for the long run, not the short- term.

Remember how long it took Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gadhi to overcome what appeared to be insurmountable odds to achieve justice and prevail over tyranny. Just don’t repeat the picture-stomping exercise. Too juvenile.

Multi Racial:

Nizar, in this democratic country, the people have the final say and we say you are our menteri besar. Let them do anything they like. We will vote you and Pakatan Rakyat to power again. We want you to investigate all those who assisted in this illegal power grab and if any of them are found wrong, they should go to jail.

Blackeye:

‘Sudah bankrupt’ - that is the message the people will hear from Pakatan Rakyat soon. Unless you go from constituency to constituency to give them help and though they will probably entertain you, they feel sorry for you. PKR is finished in Perak and the rest of Malaysia.

Your decision to have Anwar Ibrahim as your leader while keeping his wife Wan Azizah Ismail as president was a badly conceived idea. Ngeh Koo Ham and Nizar look desperate. BN’s call for a no-confidence vote against Nizar is exactly what democracy is all about. Let the Perak state assembly members decide.

Why should the state assembly be dissolved? Are the people clamouring for it? Yes, according to PKR. No, say BN. Can’t they both wait till 2013 to find out?

Put it in writing, Syed Husin challenges detractors

Avatar:

Many may not know the sacrifices, challenges and tribulations underwent by Syed Husin Ali due to his political beliefs and ideology.

Who is this small fry Tan Tee Beng to make allegations against this great man? Does Tan know of detention under the Internal Security Act? Does he know what police atrocities have been committed on Syed Husin?

Does he know what it means to have political beliefs and ethical principles? He should learn all of these things from Syed Husin and keep his mouth shut.

Louis: Tan, take up the challenge. Otherwise you better shut up. I simply do not like to read about you badmouthing others. Syed Husin, we are for you. You are indeed a gentleman. Ask this Tan to resign as soon as possible and join BN. We Penangites would not miss him one bit.

Razman Malek: I know Syed Husin personally - not as a politician but as a man on the street. He is upright, has gone through the worst under the ISA and is a good practising Muslim. I trust him with my own life. Whoever goes against him is against uprightness and against goodness.

PM: Stolen jet engines not strategic assets to nation

Christ Follower:

Prime Minister, it is not the asset we are talking about. The cost is secondary.  The engines belonged to us, it was shifted from a highly-secured place and sold off to others. If people continue to do such things to what belongs to the taxpayers, then future generations will suffer.

Sabahan:

Going by your logic, Prime Minister, our navy's ships are non-strategic assets as well since they were bought decades ago - even then, they were cast-off from other navies.

CK Chang:

PM, what do you mean by ‘not strategic assets’? Why would somebody in Uruguay be interested in the fighter engines if they were not ‘strategic’? The fighter jets were purchased using taxpayers' money. They are definitely still strategic. Don't give irresponsible and half-past-six statements.

Why do S'wak's indigenous people vote BN?

HNL: The Pakatan Rakyat and NGOs should strategise. There must be a detailed, simple and focused strategic plan of action to change the mind-set of the indigenous people in Sarawak to stop them from voting for BN in the coming election.

Until today, there is no such strategic plan by Pakatan and the NGOs aside from brief meetings here and there. That will not work. Brave dramatic actions by leaders of Pakatan and NGOs are also needed to break the mental block faced by the natives who are fearful of authorities because they are not aware of their rights.

Pakatan must come up with leaders who inspire confidence with clear policy alternatives on land, development, religious freedom and economic issues etc - policies that must be made known to the grassroots.

The biggest obstacle of political change are the Dayaks and Malays who are still very much manipulated by the BN propaganda machine
