PKR leader quits - one down, two to go

your say 'Tan Tee Beng, tomorrow is Chinese New Year. Please don't disappoint us. Take Zulkifli Noordin by the hand and walk out PKR's front or back door.'

Bayan Baru MP Zahrain quits PKR

Suhaimi Said: Good, good riddance. No big loss. PKR is to gain a lot more. This kind of unprincipled people should go, they should not be in the party. They are, in fact, opportunists. I am still waiting for a few more to quit the party, especially Zulkifli Noordin.

Antihoodwinkers: These are the former Umno guys who joined PKR but later realised that the ‘salary' they got was insufficient for their lifestyle and they simply cannot live without more money and projects. Serving the people was the last thing on their minds.

Aku Melayu: Isn't there any Chinese Malaysians from Penang qualified enough to be the chief minister of Penang? Do you have to import one from Malacca? A rejected one on top of that?

Baiyuensheng: ‘There must be a balance between the people's interests and my interests,' says Bayan Baru MP Zahrain Mohd Hashim.

Why is it that there always has to be 'my interest' in the equation of being a member of parliament? Pakatan surely cannot give him what he wants, only BN can do that. This is another betrayal to the people who supported PKR.

Keturunan Malaysia: ‘Tan Tee Beng won't follow Zahrain, for now'. Tan, tomorrow is Chinese New Year. Please, don't disappoint us. Take Zulkifli Noordin by the hand and walk out PKR's front or back door.

For this, you have the luxury of the choice of which door to use, and let us all have a nice and Happy Chinese New Year 2010. Oh, don't bother to say goodbye and for goodness sake, don't wish us ‘Gong Xi Fa Cai'. We can take bad faith up to certain point but definitely not the level coming from both of you.

GK: It is best for Pakatan politicians with Umno, MCA, MIC and Gerakan mentalities to leave Pakatan voluntarily. Malaysia cannot afford to have another half decade of racial bias and patronage politics resulting in corruption, inefficiency, absence of meritocracy, rent-seeking, favourtism, polarisation, brain drain, etc. Pakatan is the only hope for us now.

Disgusted: It's good that these type of people leave now and save Pakatan further embarrassment of people within stabbing them in the back. Wee Choo Keong, Tan Tee Beng and Zulkifli Noordin should also do the same so that Pakatan will not have to worry about these moles within and can concentrate on serving the rakyat.

These are self-serving people and not in sync with Pakatan's principles. BN can have them and let's see if they can survive within BN's fold.

Aramsa: Most of us would say it's good riddance. Certainly to us diehard Pakatan supporters, it may sound that way. It will make us happy and this is the honourable way for him to leave.

It is time for all in Pakatan to have a common platform, to unite against the common adversary, BN. Forget about cronyism and patronage politics. Try first to win the hearts and minds of the majority of the rakyats by advocating true democratic ideals and accountability.

Pakatan's objective must be to win over all Malaysians including the vast majoirty of our Malay brothers and sisters who have over the last 52 years been imbued with fear of the minority races. Zahrain, continue to fight for justice and democracy instead of just self-interest.

Lucia: I'm from Bayan Baru, Penang and he's my MP. I voted for him. Actually, more like I voted for PKR, not him. Now that he left PKR and is an independent, I will not support him. I support PKR. This is not fair to us voters in his constituency. There should be a by-election as we want a true PKR person, not this ex-Umno guy who only looks after his own self-interest.

Zubir: Zahrain's departure from PKR is merely for the following reasons:

1. Not appointed by Anwar Ibrahim to be the candidate for Penanti state seat.

2. Since not being candidate for Penanti, he lost the chance to be DCM (deputy chief minister).

3. Since he's not the DCM, he cannot control the state government and its economy and businesses.

4. His company failed to secure the management of the golf club business.

5. Losing Penang PKR chairmanship would also mean losing power.

6. He is currently Penang Football Association president and did not get support from state government.

All the above are merely for personal gains. He said what LGE (Lim Guan Eng) did was disgrace to his race, religion and country. Such statement is very Umno-like.

Multi Racial: If he cannot accept the culture of open tender then it is obvious he supports the BN concept of cronyism. I am sure there are many areas of imperfection within Pakatan. But I see the resolve of Pakatan to reform far higher than BN.

I can't see how this Zahrain fits in Pakatan. He probably be more at ease with Umno as their thinking and expectations are alike. I dare to say despite claiming to be a non-BN friendly independent MP, he will eventually be part of BN.

There's nothing wrong to be friendly with BN as long as they are genuine to improve Malaysians well-being. Similarly, there's nothing wrong to be friendly with Pakatan if they are on the same page. Serve the greater good, but I don't think Zahrain is up for the job.

Eugene: Good riddance! A politician who can't put the rakyat's priorities above himself is not fit to be anyone's representative. If he's annoyed with Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng that his RM2 company couldn't secure a contract, then he's better off gone.

Don't even try to cause a ruckus by claiming the Malays are marginalised. The Malays do not need a self-serving person like you.

Ozzie Jo: Non-BN friendly independent? Let's take a bet for how long he will remain such. Past experience by the traitorous threesome in Perak has taught him not to jump onto the BN bandwagon till the hullabaloo dies down... Mark my word.
