  • The government has banned an episode of the popular US television series 'Friends' for being too sexy, according to a statement by the Censorship Board.

The offending programme, which is listed as "Year 8 Episode 11", was outlawed for "portraying casual sex, promiscuity amongst youth, pregnancy outside the institution of marriage and prostitution".

It was one of 37 films, TV shows and advertisements banned between April and June this year, the New Straits Times reported Friday.

The others include the "English musical 'Incubus: Are you in' which got the chop for portraying free interaction between the sexes in an unruly and erotic manner, vulgarity and scenes of women wearing bikinis which may incite lust among men," the paper said.

But it was not only sex that exercised Malaysia's censors: they also banned English documentary "Yngwie Malmsteen: Play Loud", for "showing singers sporting long hair and mop tops, wearing earrings and bangles and playing black metal music," the paper said.

And some films were banned on religious grounds in this multi-cultural Southeast Asian nation where Islam is the official religion. AFP
