The election results of the MCA central committee reflect that of the presidential race with no clear winner among the three major factions.

At a glance, new party chief Chua Soi Lek has 11 of his people in the powerful CC while his closest rival, former president Ong Ka Ting has nine, and outgoing president Ong Tee Keat, five.

NONE Candidates with with government posts, as well as parliamentarians and state assemblypersons, were favoured by MCA delegates in the CC contest.

At the same time, all incumbent CC members have retained their seats. 

The results in CC tally with the general distribution of the three factions’ power base. Since Chua commanded only 38 percent of the votes, there were no ultimate winners.

NONE It remains to see how well Chua can work with new deputy president Liow Tiong Lai and the rest of Ka Ting's loyalists in the central committee.

It would also be interesting to see who will replace the Tee Keat as transport minister and Kong Cho Har as minister for housing and local government.

The results, however, cannot serve as final resolution of the power struggle in MCA as the leaders are not known to have loyalty. Another round of horse trading is expected to occur.
