Chew makes good on quit promise

Yuvan: I salute former MCA Wanita chief Chew Mei Fun for her courage and beliefs. She is a model politician. Her decision should show to all Malaysians that political leaders and people in public service have to possess high moral values to be really respected and honoured.

Some of our political and public figures who have been involved, and some who are facing serious allegations to be involved, in immoral activities should honourably relinquish their positions and help to upkeep the dignity of the nation. These people have set a bad precedent to the younger generation.

Continuing to support them will only give credence to whatever wrong done by them and ultimately destroy the moral values of our society. It is time that Malaysians have the courage to stand up and show that they will not support politicians and public figures involved or alleged to be involved in immoral activities, as shown by Chew.

Multi Racial: Wow, what an act. This deserves an Academy award. You don't need to be a nuclear physicist to know that she is doing it for her own political career. Let me explain.

What Chew did is a continuation from the same group who want to bring down party president Dr Chua Soi Lek. Just ask yourself, if she is as good as she position herself, why did she back stab former president Ong Tee Keat. Her action is obviously part of a plan to position ‘Brutus' Liow Tiong Lai for presidency in a year to come.

After all, if she doesn't resign after what she had said, she will look very bad. For her to resign now - and announced that she did it for all women - will made her look good politically. So this is part of her campaign for the next MCA election which is only a year away.

We need honest and credible people in MCA. Chew and the other two ‘Brutus' are nowhere near that.

Lahore San: A promise demands to be met by the giver, and not broken by calls by the so-called supporters around him/her. By resigning, at least where promises are concerned, she is streets ahead of that bare-faced liar Ong Tee Keat, loser extraordinaire who does not even have his reputation to salvage now.

Chew has not done any harm to her reputation by leaving; it might even be enhanced. I hope this will be the way forward for her colleagues and that she won't be tempted to do an Ong Tee Keat cowardly maneuver. She may well live to fight another day as the MCA delegates might even look favourably on her after this episode.

After all, they gave Chua another lease of life, didn't they?

Zul, Zahrain to 'tag along with PM' on US trip

Tan Kian Khim: It is obvious to all that the inclusion of former PKR parliamentarians Zul Noordin and Zahrain Hashim in Prime Minister Najib Razak's entourage is not so much a 'reward' as it is a quid pro quo working assignment for the two frogs.

Having previously paid them to instigate trouble in PKR and then jump ship, Najib now expects repayment in the form of them helping him to impugn Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim in the US.

Internationally, no one has the slightest doubt that the whole sordid 'Sodomy II' case is anything but a base attempt by Umno and a paid-off police and judiciary to counter Anwar's rising influence.

Zul and Zahrain will soon find out that there is no such thing as a free lunch: when you sell your soul to the devil, he will collect. The Devil never writes off a bad debt.

Doc: Here's a few reason why Najib is taking these two jokers along with him to the US:

i) Najib wants to educate the US congressmen that it's okay to "purchase" politicians from the opposition party.

ii) To show the US Congress up-front what type of idiotic MPs Malaysia is saddled with.

iii) Butter up both these jokers in order they do Umno's bidding.

iv) Get some extra hands to help wife, Rosmah Mansor, carry her shopping stuff.

M'sian talent in high demand overseas

Ray123: I have been working in overseas for the past 10 years. The reason for me to leave are equitable opportunities and great career progression out of Malaysia. In overseas, we are rewarded base on our hardwork and dedication to business and career.

Malaysia's social economics policies does not reflect equitable opportunities and also its education system has not really changed for many years, and it is indeed going backwards with introduction of Malay as the language for science and technology. It is very difficult for us who think of our future, and our children's future, to want to work and stay in Malaysia.

If the government is serious of turning Malaysia into a developed economy and a world-class workforce, they really need to forget about race-base policies and doing what is right and good for Malaysia, not what is good for one race.

David Dass: It is ironic. The key strengths of the educated Malaysian are:

Languages - English and Mandarin in particular.

Resilience - gained from coping with a difficult environment.

Adaptability and flexibility and a multicultural perspective - obtained from living in a diverse society.

It is ironic because in Malaysia we do not seem to consider these as strengths because our policies and politics seem to encourage opposite qualities. Will we ever learn?

DontPlayGod: Come on, do you think Umno and Perkasa care whether the non-Malays leave Malaysia for greener pastures and equal treatment abroad? Umno wants the Malays to increase to more than 85 percent and the more non-Malays leave, the happier it will be.
