Missing the point on Pornthip's 'safety'

vox populi small thumbnail 'Dr Pornthip Rajanasunan is being blackmailed. If she comes to testify in Malaysia, her work in southern Thailand is threatened. It is not about her being in danger if and when she comes.'

Nazri to face contempt proceedings?

Peter Chen: Practically everybody is missing the point. Dr Pornthip Rajanasunan is being blackmailed. If she comes to testify in Malaysia, her work in southern Thailand is threatened. It is not about her being in danger if and when she comes. If she comes, then she will face problems in her work in southern Thailand.

So you can provide all the safety assurances you want, but if nothing is done to ensure she can carried out her work in southern Thailand unhindered and, I assume, including going to northern Malaysia, then she may choose her work in southern Thailand instead of coming here to testify.

We must find ways to counteract that.

CT.Huang: The government should now issue a public statement guaranteeing her safety to come to testify in the inquiry and that she is allowed to enter Kelantan for her work.

WandererAUS: It is sad to see a minister calling a foreign national a liar. It simply reflects on this man, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz, as a deranged low-class being lacking in diplomatic courtesy.

His treatment of opposition politicians is due to his egoistic and arrogant nature and is unbecoming of a member of parliament and an Umno minister.

Md Imraz Muhd Ikhbal: It is a known fact that in any obscured homicide, it is only the murderer and the accessory to the crime are ones who know all the facts of the murder. In the case of death not amounting to homicide, then no one really knows the facts until a thorough forensic investigation is performed, evidence adduced and circumstances of death determined.

In the case of TBH's (Teoh Beng Hock's) death, the holding of the entire inquest is for one purpose only - to determine the cause of death - simply because, before this, we thought nobody knew the cause of death, hence the forensic investigations.

As it shockingly appears, our de facto law minister Nazri seems to know all the facts on the circumstances of TBH's death well ahead of the inquest findings that he dares to publicly allege that an internationally renowned pathologist is a liar.

So if Nazri is a minister and he represents the government, then scroll up and reread my first sentence if you still do know not who is the one ultimately responsible for TBH's death.

Quigonbond: That's really first-class comment from Nazri. In his realm of juvenile imagination, when someone has yet to give you an answer, she automatically becomes a liar. In that case, the cabinet must be full of liars, because Pakatan Rakyat has been asking a lot of serious questions on a whole list of grievances only to be met with deafening silence.

Nazri says he feels she is scared. How many times has Dr Pornthip testified in a court of law as a forensics expert? How many times has Nazri taken the witness stand?

I'll bet my bottom dollar anytime that the doctor has more credibility in a court of law than Nazri.

Confused: How can a government official accuse someone of being a liar without proof, especially when that person is a foreigner with high credentials and is well respected?

Our ministers need to undergo some kind of public relations lessons. Maybe they should get (controversial global communications firm) Apco to teach them how to behave and learn what to say in front of the media and the public.

AkuMelayu: Where do you go for fake Prada, Gucci, Fendi, LV, Dior, Vanessa Bruno, Chloe, Balenciaga, etc? To Thailand, of course. You cannot trust everything that comes from Thailand, can you?

Justice4all: A recent survey conducted by Reader's Digest and published in its March issue named Dr Pornthip as being the most trustworthy person in Thailand. Can so many Thais be wrong?

S'gor moots video testimony for Pornthip

Sundarajoo A. Periasamy: I agree with Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim. If she feel uneasy attending, testifying to the court through the Internet is the best alternative, and I hope the judge will agree to this. We wants the culprit to be charged to serve as a lesson for others.

Cala: Teoh Beng Hock's sudden death is Malaysia's problem. The pain and anguish resulting from TBH's sudden death is not something confined to his wife and his immediate family. It is a big blow to the Malaysian people, as TBH represented hope when he worked for the opposition party, the very means the people hoped to use to replace the current corrupted regime.

Getting to the bottom of the affair as to what caused his death would reveal to the world the real hand behind the attempted power-grab for Selangor. Remember one senior leader from the BN had on record said that at least half-a-dozen Selangor state assemblypersons would be under investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission while MACC officers pulled TBH away?

As one reader has suggested, if Dr Pornthip cannot be here, why not move the whole inquest to Thailand the way we did with the Eric Chia case. Why not?
