Zaid should sign pledge not to jump ship

vox populi small thumbnail 'Make sure Zaid signs a binding and irrevocable undertaking that should he ever wants to leave PKR, he would resign his elected seat if he is elected.'

It's Zaid for Hulu Selangor

Peter Chen: Please make sure Zaid Ibrahim signs a binding and irrevocable undertaking not to jump ship before signing him up as the election candidate.

Include in the undertaking that should he ever wants to leave PKR or Pakatan Rakyat, that he would resign his elected seat if he is elected. And make the undertaking public.

Amaso: We would vote a repentant person who is willing to turn over a new leaf rather than someone who shows no repent at all, repeats wrongdoing, arrogant and racist. The incident of vote-buying while you were in Umno is only a tiny stain. We support you all the way, Zaid!

AkuMelayu: Thank God, if it is true that Pakatan is fielding this opportunist bozo. The battle is half won by BN already. Mark my words.

Rayfire: Good luck, Zaid. I hope you will contribute positively upon winning the seat. I am confident you will win regardless of who the opponent will be. I just hope you have the time to work on the common policy framework thereafter. You have the confidence and support from most Malaysians. Minus the BN goons, of course!

ISA at Kertih: It looks like PKR does not have a credible pool of people with good background and without black spots.

If PKR wants to be an alternative, then don't behave like Umno. Get new talent with good reputation, not frogs or people with a questionable past in politics. He is a product of Umno, made money while in Umno, now he stands for PKR. How is he going to question Umno?

PKR should get high-standing professionals to stand as candidates. It is the principles that PKR should be fighting for, using the election as a platform to change and bring in new candidates.

Justice: We've got a person who can benefit a lot by playing Umno game, but he quit a fat ministry post and then was sacked from Umno because he stood for his principle. I am very glad he is the Pakatan man for Hulu Selangor.

CKS: A frog is an elected representative who compromised his cause or principles for personal gains or agenda. A frog betrays the rakyat who elected him for personal gains or agenda.

Zaid, on the other hand, gave up his ministerial position to uphold his conviction in democratic governance and which ultimately led to his sacking from Umno.

Keturunan Malaysia: Zaid played the game by the same unwritten rules played by so many, but the very people that cried out because of spilled milk could not accept the fact that others, too, can play the game by the same rules they played. That, too, must be their birthright.

No one is saying he cannot turn bad in the future but so far for now, he is as good a bet as any... Or should I say, a much better bet than many he left behind.

Malaysiaboleh: There is a world of difference between Zaid and other recent instances (of party-crossing). Zaid jumped ship for principles which were publicly made.

The other instances jumped ship for a complete lack of principles. Whatever reasons were put forward were more about bruised egos and political opportunism. In some cases, such as in Perak last year, there were no reasons made public at all.

It is not a question of perspective - just look at the specific circumstances. Zaid is intelligent and his sincerity comes across.

I hope the electorate concerned, and especially the Indian electorate, will prove that MIC is a liability to their own BN sponsors. A vote for MIC is a vote for its leader, who has himself no elected legitimacy.

Oh Malaysia: Hulu Selangor is blessed with a wonderful candidate in the form of Zaid. Pakatan has many able candidates in their ranks. Dr Halili Rahmat is another wonderful character, but with all his wisdom, I think Zaid is the best candidate.

My only worry is that he is a so-called parachute candidate and that BN will exploit this to the hilt.

Cala: Zaid is a good choice for this election as he is the author of the well- received Pakatan Policy Framework and the policy direction. His presence in Parliament (if he wins) will further boost the spirit of the opposition. Pakatan needs him.

Aramsa: My Hindraf friends, please give Zaid your full and unfettered support. Reach out to the Indian community and persuade them to vote for Pakatan.

My Malay brethren, the time has come for you to save the Malay masses and save Malaysia. The time has come for moving forward with another new dawn. The time has come to tell Umno/BN enough is enough.

My Chinese friends, you are the kingmakers, so they say. Vote for Pakatan to register unity amongst the opposition and amongst the people to bring forth a new economic success. Umno/BN should have delivered before, but time and again they failed. It was not by their ability and competency to govern.

It is your sweat and blood that we have the Malaysia of today, which could have been more prosperous if not for Umno/BN's wastefulness.
