Burglars broke into the service centre of PKR vice-president Azmin Ali in Taman Melawati, Ulu Kelang and fled with the central processing units (CPUs) of five desktop computers.

The break-in was only discovered today as Azmin had closed the service centre for two days over the week-end to concentrate his efforts on the Hulu Selangor by-election on Sunday.

"All the other items, printers, fax machines, computer monitors and phones were left intact," he said.

The intrusion was discovered by Azmin’s special officer Najib Onn when he arrived at the centre early this morning.

"Najib saw that the doorknob of the main door was broken and that there were files scattered all over the floor," said Azmin ( left ), adding that Najib immediately lodged a police report at the Ampang police station.

Azmin, who is member of Parliament for Gombak, said he also related the matter to Selangor police chief Khalid Abu Bakar when they met at a function they both attended earlier today.

"Khalid assured me that his officers will investigate the incident and find the culprits," he said.

Three police officers later arrived at the centre at 1.30pm for investigations and to record evidence.

Politically motivated?

Azmin said the circumstances surrounding the incident were ‘very suspicious’ pointing out the burglars did not take the other valuables in the office.

He added he was of the opinion the thieves were looking for something specific as evidenced by the scattered files on the floor.

"I don’t want to speculate but there are a few issues of concern here. Is this just a burglary or is this something politically-motivated?" he asked.

He hoped the police would conduct a fair and thorough investigation of the incident.

"I want to know the motive behind this. I hope it is not politically-motivated but judging from the circumstances, it is difficult to believe otherwise," he said.
