The Information, Communication and Culture Ministry is seeking more than RM3 billion under the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP) to expand the country's broadband service.

Its secretary-general, Kamaruddin Siaraf, said the allocation for the purpose was necessary to enable Malaysia to compete at international level.

"It is also to ensure RTM is able to disseminate information to the people more effectively using this new approach," he told reporters after handing over prizes to winners of the National Geographic mega quiz in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

He said the ministry had also submitted various projects and programmes to increase RTM rating for implementation under the 10MP.
