'Please don't accept these Umno frogs but advise them to be independent reps instead. Then dissolve the assembly and let the rakyat decide.'
Three Umno state reps to cross over, says Perak PKR
Joepaul: I don't think PKR should encourage such ‘frog' behaviour. If these Umno representatives really want to change their political affiliation - after realising the error of their ways (which is very unlikely) - they can work with PKR to call for a vote of no confidence against the current BN state government.
And if that succeeds, they can join the new Pakatan government. PKR should not tarnish its credibility and image by encouraging party hopping, which it has condemned in the past. They should not set aside principles in the quest for power.
Sarawakian I agree wholeheartedly that PKR should not accept these frogs, particularly if they are disgruntled ones from Umno. It's very tempting to make up the number to regain the state but it will not benefit the opposition in the long run.
They will become a liability in due course. Instead, PKR should encourage them to go ‘independent' or better still, resign their positions. You have BN-friendly independents so why not Pakatan Rakyat-friendly independents as well.
Timothy: Since BN dare not call for fresh election, accept them, form the government, dissolve the state assembly and call for fresh election. I hope the Perakians will give a clear mandate to Pakatan. But please choose the right candidates.
CPL: I hope that the katak hopping will end. GE 13 is around the corner. Energy should be focussed on delivery and working towards the next general election. Field principled candidates. How can one be sure if the BN katak crossover will be the end of the defections?
Tkc: After the 916 (September 16) fiasco that started all these nonsense, here we go again. The only politician in Pakatan who has been totally consistent with regard to anti-hopping is Karpal Singh. The rest, especially those from PKR, seems to be intoxicated with the scent of power.
Muallaf: To all Pakatan leaders and decision-makers, especially DSAI (Anwar Ibrahim), please read all the comments from Malaysiakini subscribers. They are very helpful to you on making the next move.
DSAI, you have started the ‘frog compaign' and see what happened. Please don't accept these Umno frogs but advise them to be independent representatives instead. Then dissolve the assembly and let the rakyat decide. I will be there to vote for sure.
PPP's Kayveas to step down... in 2014
CK Chang: What is wrong with stepping down now? PPP is no longer relevant. All it does is carry Umno's bags. Anybody can helm the spineless PPP. Go and tell (Malacca Chief Minister) Mohd Ali Rustam that you are stepping down in four to five years and see what he says.
Victor Johan: M Kayveas, you are asking PPP members to prepare a candidate of calibre to take over as the party president through a smooth transition process without creating any disunity - they may actually end up in unity upon you quitting the presidential position.
From RCM Rayan onwards, PPP has become more irrelevant in Perak and also the rest of Malaysian states. May you rest in peace.
Collins: Your leadership is nothing to crow about. You might as well leave much sooner so that a real leader may perchance emerge. The PPP was something under the Seenivasagam brothers. You're not even a pale shadow of them, no matter how well you are dressed.
Lusiapa: M Kayveas, are you aware of Karpal Singh's media statement dated April 13, 2007, in reaction to PPP's demand to the BN for more seats in the 12th general elections, when PPP threatened to join the opposition?
Karpal's words still ring loud and clear today: "The opposition does not need political rubbish among its ranks." This comment is still valid more than three years down the road.
Don't doubt Najib's credibility, says Pak Lah
Md Imraz Muhd Ikhbal: With the countless controversies involving his administration and the unquantifiable magnitude of corruption, PM Najib Razak is doing a good job and his credibility thus far should not be questioned?
Unlike you, Pak Lah, the rakyat have been awake with our eyes and ears wide open. We know exactly the kind of credibility your successor has earned and we're certainly not stupid to inhale your gibberish.
Pg Kia: Sleepy head, the Judas from Johor (ex-MB Muyiddin Yassin) is now planning to dethrone his boss in a similar strategy he has used on you. So, you better prepare to work with Najib to eliminate him, otherwise your son-in-law will lose his Umno Youth leadership.
Hopium: Probably not worth commenting. Hit the snooze button, boys and gals...
New minimum wage move for security guards deferred
Smile: It's a shame that a decision made had to be deferred. Don't tell me that the Human Resource Ministry has done a complete study on the economic impact of increasing the minimum wages of security guards. The dateline can be effective for new contracts only.
For any existing contract, the terms and conditions should remain until termination of the contracts. With the increase of minimum wages, the security services companies can get more revenue to improve its services.
Anonymous: Any company that only exists because it is exploiting these low-income earners and then says they will go out of business if they are forced to pay a reasonable minimum wage should be put out of business.
The current system is bordering on slavery at RM300-RM400 a month. I couldn't even pay my monthly petrol bill with that.
Besides, imagine the quality of a person's work "protecting" your family and possessions - you think they care for RM400 a month if you were murdered? I wouldn't risk my life for 10 times that money and, yes, it can be a very dangerous job. No wonder locals don't want the job.
