M Indira Gandhi’s hopes of being reunited with her youngest child were dashed yet again today when the Ipoh High Court postponed her case to July 28.

In chambers, Justice Zainal Adzam Abdul Ghani told Indira’s lawyer M Kulasegaran that this was to accommodate the Federal Court’s delay in ruling on the S Shamala case .

Indira, 35, has filed an application for leave to quash the certificates of conversion to Islam of her three children - daughter Tevidarsiny, 13, son Karan Dinish, 12, and daughter Prasana Diksa, two.

The two older children are with her, but Prasana is in the custody of her estranged husband K Pathmanathan @ Mohd Riduan Abdullah. He had converted himself and all the children without her knowledge in April last year.

Indira then filed a civil case against the state registrar of conversions, Perak religious department director, both the state and federal governments, the Education Ministry and Riduan.

Contempt proceedings

Kulasegaran also said Indira will soon apply for contempt proceedings to be initiated against Riduan for refusing to surrender Prasana to her.

Riduan and Prasana are believed to be living in Kelantan, but Indira is at a loss over their address. Riduan, his lawyers and Prasana were not in court today.

Kulasegaran said: “The problem is locating the husband who has only given the address of his lawyer’s firm. We will be contacting his lawyers to initiate the contempt proceedings soon.”

The Syariah Court had granted custody of all the children to Riduan based on his application.

However, on March 11 last year, High Court Judge Wan Afrah Wan Ibrahim allowed Indira’s application for custody and ordered Riduan to immediately surrender Prasana to her mother.

The court also granted Riduan once-weekly visitation rights to the children.
