CNN-Utusan row: World champ vs 'jaguh kampung'

your say 'Who would you believe - a respectable news broadcaster watched by millions around the world or a racist paper that doesn't check and verify their information beforehand?'

Report fabricated, says CNN

Abil: CNN is the world's foremost and most reliable news channel. To accuse it of getting kickbacks from Anwar is most insulting to CNN. This is akin to saying that CNN can be bought and all its newsmakers are paying to do interviews with CNN.

CNN should sue Utusan Malaysia by insinuating that it is corrupt to the extent that it takes money from Anwar for its programme.

Baiyuensheng: For CNN to come out and refute all these lies is really something. This shows how low Umno would go to spread such blatant accusations. Utusan Malaysia should be gentleman enough to issue an apology.

Rubystar: How low will they go to bring Anwar Ibrahim down? It is really a desperate act, like a bully who cannot have his childish ways, to accuse Anwar of all sorts of crimes.

Rais Yatim will go to lengths to confirm that Anwar is indeed an agent of the CIA by citing some mountain-top blogger in New York. Being the minister of information and communications, does he know how blogs operate?

There are millions of blogs, and in order to attract readers, a number of them resort to all sorts of chicanery and tricks to make their blogs visible. I thought there was a minister who said that most bloggers are unemployed liars?

Habib RAK: The leaders of Umno and the media associated with Umno have lost all credibility. The public does not believe anything said by them anymore. They have reached the level of "the boy who cried wolf". Now, with CNN coming out to deny the ‘Anwar paid CNN' report, this further reinforces the public's view.

BTN: Umno, you can shift the goal posts in Bolehland to achieve your devious plans, but don't make a fool of yourself in the international arena. Get your facts right before asking your paper to print it.

Huang: It's very easy to make allegations, but the ultimate test is concrete proof. Unless proof is forthcoming, readers and bloggers have to take them with a spoonful of salt, pepper and vinegar.

There are four degrees of lies: one-quarter lies, half-lies, three-quarter lies and complete lies. Similarly, there are four degrees of truth: one-quarter truths, half-truth, three-quarter truths, and whole truths.

If you cannot provide proof, you are a first-class liar and should be roundly condemned by all impartial observers.

Alexander Yuan: Who would you believe - a respectable news broadcaster watched by millions around the world or a racist paper that doesn't check and verify their information beforehand? You don't need to be Albert Einstein to answer that question.

Utusan , here is one word you should learn by hard now - busted.

Ranjit Singh: Anwar, you need CNN to come and tell you this. Shall I engage ABC, MSNBC, BBC? Take your pick. Sorry, but how does CNN make a difference to Malaysians? Who cares about CNN when 70 percent of people in Malaysia have no excess to CNN?

What we need is a grassroots leader, not one who is popular because of his populist agenda. Have faith in the Malaysian people.

Teoh Kheng Siong: All this while, the US and the West have been on Anwar's side so it makes sense that CNN can arrange a free interview with him. Since he is the ‘watchdog' of this country, there is nothing the West cannot arrange for him.

Tkc: Monosyllable Muhyiddin Yassin, keris-waving Hishammuddin Hussein and dual-mode Rais Yatim were just jealous of Anwar because they did not get invited to appear on CNN. Compared with charismatic and articulate Anwar, these three guys are as interesting as watching paint dry.

If they were to ever appear on CNN, they would put their foot in their mouth in no time at all.

BulanRoketMata: Utusan is no match for CNN. It is just like a jaguh kampung (village champion) going up against a world champ. CNN should sue this jaguh kampung , but don't file the case in any Malaysian court, because they are all been paid to lie.

Voice: By reporting the allegation, a severe damage has been done on world-class news broadcaster CNN as people around the world now might have suspicion on its ethics and professionalism.

Yobama: I suppose, the election season has already arrived in Malaysia, and try to win back the rural Malays, these Umno politicians will have to resort what ever means. May Allah protect us from such sins!

Fed-up: Anwar, I know you would love to sue Utusan Malaysia for the lies, but don't bother. Firstly, we all know you can never win because Utusan will always get away with such lies. Secondly, who cares about Utusan ? It lost its credibility a long time ago. I would not even want to touch that paper if given to me free of charge.

Chee Hoe Siew: *LOL* This is the level of reliability of our Malaysian papers and Umno MPs. They continue to lash out with wild accusations with no evidence to substantiate their claims.

Robert L: With all the false reporting coming out of Utusan (this is far from being an isolated incident), I'm surprised the BN government has not banned Umno-owned Utusan the way it has banned Suara Keadilan .

Hashim: DPM Muhyiddin Yassin accused Anwar of being desperate in allegedly paying CNN for the interview. Yet the BN-controlled media published their reports based on some obscure bloggers in the United States. Moreover, they put a spin on these blog postings.

In his article, Joshua Trevino accused Anwar of hiring "people with strong media contacts , particularly in CNN" , to convince Jewish lobbyists that he is not anti-Israel. In Bolehland, this was turned into "Anwar paid CNN".

Similarly, Elaine Meinel Supkis said that Anwar was a "tool of CIA" (though I'm still baffled why the CIA would want to assassinate Anwar). This was spun by our Malaysian media into "Anwar a CIA agent".

So who is desperate - Anwar or Umno?
