MACC's credibility on the rebound? Yeah, right

vox populi small thumbnail 'We've given up. What is the point of criticising an organisation that refuses to change? Frankly the level of trust has only gone down further and further.'

MACC will be relentless in combatting corruption

Foo Wy Len: Apart from all the public relation stunts, what we see is just talk. At least you, Abu Kassim Mohamed, realise that "many people are still sceptical".

Good for you, but to equate declining negative criticisms with increasing public faith in the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), don't you think it's a bit too early to give yourself a pat on your own back? Maybe just a case of same old, same old?

Multi Racial: "Undoubtedly, many people are still sceptical of MACC's credibility, but we have found that negative criticisms from the public had declined, and they are beginning to have faith in the commission."

Declining? No, lah . It's more like we've given up. What is the point of criticising an organisation that refuses to change?

We want just one big fish. Show us. Start with the submarine deal. The French investigators didn't take long to establish that there is corruption. So catch the big fish and prosecute in court. What about the PKFZ corruption? Still no big fish. Frankly, the level of trust has gone down further and further, not the other way around.

Abil: Stop talking and prove to us that MACC is not bias but independent. You have to prove to the rakyat that you do your job without fear or favour. You have to investigate all cases, irrespective of which party is being investigated for robbing the rakyat's money.

Making comments that you will do so is not enough. We have been listening to the same thing for last 52 years.

TKC: Relentless in fighting corruption? I'm not sure if the MACC has been relentless in:

1) not investigating a certain super rich and evil dentist;

2) being made a tool by Umno to hassle their rival politicians;

3) using every trick in the bag to prevent the truth on Teoh Beng Hock from coming out.

Simon Lee: Abu Kassim said MACC has never turned a blind eye to the 'big fish'. Yes, we believe you. You never turned a blind eye to the big fish - in fact, MACC actually turned both blind eyes to the big fish and only go after small innocent guys like Teoh Beng Hock. What a joke, another ‘syok sendiri' statement.

The facts are clear for all to see who Abu Kassim is reporting to, which is not Parliament. Political parties, concerned NGOs and the public are wasting time giving comments and criticisms to the MACC. The only way is to change the government.

Cala: Abu Kassim Mohamed is amusing himself. Why?

First, corruption as a way of life has been institutionalised by Malaysian politicians who care for nobody except themselves. The frequencies of such scandals and the gigantic amount involved have been the hallmarks of the Umno-led BN coalition since Dr Mahathir Mohamad's reign (Wain, 2009, p. 149, para 1). To date, there is no sign of it subsiding (see Felda and Sime Darby incidents).

Second, Malaysia's corruption perception index is going south - in 2003, the score was 5.2, in 2009 the score was: 4.5. It ranked 56 out of a total 180 countries under survey. When compared to some of the failed states, it did reasonably well (Greece - 71 out of 180, Zimbabwe - 146 out of 180).

Third, to a man on the street, MACC is a joke. Is not Dr Mohd Khir Toyo's mansion big enough for MACC to see? In sum, Abu Kassim can say what he likes, but no one trusts him for his "relentless efforts to combat corruption".

DOC: Abu Kassim Mohamed seems to be in a state of delusion with his statement that MACC's credibility among the rakyat is on the rebound. Has he been forgetting to take his anti-delusional medication?

PAS: Sue Harussani over unity talks allegation

Jiminy Qrikert Hasan Ali has already called Harussani Zakaria a liar. So, now go one step further - take Harussani to court. For Harussani to blemish PAS' reputation amongst Pakatan Rakyat supporters is a very serious matter, especially when non-Malays do not trust Hasan Ali despite PAS setting up a non-Malay division.

I hope PAS does not put Hasan Ali up as a candidate in my constituency. My vote will be a protest vote.

Artchan: Harussani is the Perak mufti who nearly created a riot when he spread rumours of a mass conversion of Muslims to Christianity in Perak. And a mufti that lies in the name of Islam. I wonder why he is still mufti. Is there none in Perak who can do a better job than this joker?

Ferdtan: Good one, Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud.Your proposal of suing Harussani over unity talks allegation will put to rest talk as to who is the one who is lying. Hassan Ali, please clear your name.

'The more Khir Toyo speaks, the more it stinks'

Kgen: Umno creating mischief for Pakatan Rakyat states again. When will they stop politicking and start doing something about Malaysia's economic decline into the pits?

FDI has already crashed, there's been a loss of skilled workers at a critical level, income has stagnated against rising inflation, and all they can talk about is who can call Allah by that name, race, sand and water.

Agent99: Umno should sit back and stop talking rubbish on issues which are irrelevant. Observe how successful Pakatan runs the four states and learn from them.

Give due freedom to the police, the judiciary, and especially the MACC to act more independently to gain the trust of the public. If BN has to fire a few goons and even put a few in prison, so be it. Then and only then would there be a slim chance that BN gain back the country in 2018.

X-Umno: Sand mining by KSSB possibly has left big holes in Umno cronies' pockets. That's why they're screaming now.
