Oxford protest won't deter Taib Mahmud

your say 'If he had any self-respect, he would have engaged and elevated the plights of the natives, in particular the Penans, a long time ago.'

S'wak CM gives Oxford protestors the slip

Bryan Michael SM Yeo: I wonder whether a character like Abdul Taib Mahmud will ever understand the protest. He is too thick-skinned, wallowing in his ill-gotten gains, to even condescend to reacting to the protesters.

If he had any self-respect, he would have engaged and elevated the plights of the natives, in particular the Penans, a long time ago. May God bless the soul of Bruno Manser and may the rights of the natives prevail in due course. May evil-doers reap the fruits of their bad deeds.

Swipenter: This is just politics being played out for all to see and the courts are infamous for being partial to their political masters. Freedom of worship is a myth even though it is guaranteed under the federal constitution. You have a situation where all and recent new housing estates have set aside land for mosques, but never for any other religion.

Satya: I am so disgusted by Abdul Taib Mahmud. Here is one sure-fire way to tarnish the reputation of Oxford. Don't these people actually conduct some research before inviting a person such as Taib Mahmud?

Dinish K: Let him get the international attention. I am sure UK police won't be arresting the protestors.

A voice from the wilderness: Congratulations, Oxford University, for associating with Abdul Taib Mahmud. You have invited the worst culprit who singlehandedly robbed the Penan people and made himself a billionaire at their expense.

BTN: Oxford's standards have indeed went down the drain. There seems to be quiet a number of disappearing acts in Bolehland. I'm afraid Oxford has become a ‘bodek' (apple polishing) university.

Nik V: Make sure that this article is sent or forwarded to the press and media in London. No point yelling about it here, as politicians like Taib have no fear of our local media.

S'wak NCR land with 'potential' to be surveyed

Regnskog: Alfred Jabu is telling lies and fishing for votes, because there's no specific time stated for the perimeter survey. Sarawak Pakatan Rakyat, however, has mentioned that they would start their perimeter surveys and/or grant titles to NCR land after six months of being in power.

BN has had 47 years to have done this perimeter survey, yet they are trying to tell lies to Sarawakian again and again. Under BN, no way are they going to keep their promise.

Jamah Lubah: No Sarawakians believe all this. It has been said many times but nothing has been done. Remember the state election is very near. This present government just has not been able to solve Sarawak's land problems.

Disgusted: All NCR landowners in Sarawak do not believe this will happen until they see the Land and Survey Department actually doing it. Alfred Jabu still insists that only NCR land earmark for oilpalm/tree planting will be surveyed.

Why can't they just survey our land, give us the titles and be done with it? Why does the Sarawak government want to get the people's lands by all means? What's worse is that Dayak ministers like Alfred Jabu are doing this.

Mazu statue: Apex court rejects ex-CM's leave bid

Lim Chong Leong: Where is the mutual and inter-faith respect and understanding that our PM just talks about?

Bapak Toyol: What do you expect from Umno's courts? Sabahans and Sarawakians, it is time for you to get rid of Umno and BN in the next general election. Show them your people's power.

Voice: This is only the beginning. Just to build a statue of our own god has met with so many obstruction and hurdles. Sabahans, you know what to do at the next GE.

Habib RAK: The fact that the Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Richard Malanjum was not part of the five-member panel is already very telling. It was orchestrated to frustrate. It's for the people of Sabah to correct this in the next state election.

Pete Stop: You get what you voted for. Not only is Sabah the poorest state despite its richness in natural resources, but it looks like it is growing more religiously intolerant. What is the point for these guys to remain in BN, when you can't even get things done?

Come and see Penang, it has the largest Kuan Yin statue erected with a giant Pavilion to boot. Go to Kelantan and you have one of the largest Buddha statues. All these under the opposition and even that under an Islamist state administration.

Philip Chong: I think it is unhealthy to put the Mazu statue there facing the sea. There are Muslims, Christians, and other religions peoples staying in Kudat. It is a multiracial community.

CCSAN: What is illegal remains illegal. All must learn from this lesson. Don't blame any body. Why is that the Kudat Thean Hou Charitable Foundation was not registered in the first place? No one is above the law.

Brij Jayaram Kathiravelu: So much for 1Malaysia. The issue of Kudat Thean Hou Charitable Foundation not being registered is only a 'technical issue' as pointed by Raja Aziz Addruse.

Clearly, the Kudat Town Board withdrew its earlier letter of approval after looking at the scale of the project. The Mazu statue is tied the historical arrival of the mainland to Sabah/Sarawak and, in my opinion, has nothing to do with religious issues.

Ferd Tan: Sabahans got the government they deserve. After 45 years of BN rule, the people of Sabah still have not learnt their lesson. Many allegations have been made that many Indonesians and Filipinos were allowed to vote in the elections.

Wake up, Sabahans, take back your state, empower yourselves by registering yourselves and your families as voters. Your one vote can make a difference. A political tsunami can happen in Sabah, just as it did in Peninsula Malaysia. Good luck, Sabahans. If you want to change your destiny - act now.

Thomas Foo: BN-ruled states disallow/hinder/object/suppress other religions from preaching whereas Pakatan-rule states allow freedom of religion. PAS/Kelantan has allowed the "Sleeping Buddha" at Rantau Panjang (a stone's throw away from a mosque), the Thien Hou temple in Tumpat and Indian temples to be built.
