DAP expels 'rogue councillor' Tee

Veno: Can this action to remove a party member for corruption be exemplary of any political party in Malaysia? Can we expect all BN component parties to do likewise or face the wrath of the voters? You can be very sure the media (in this case, The Star newspaper has done a good job) to highlight this misdeed. Can all mainstream media expose all cases of corruption/leakages/mismanagement?

Corruption is corruption no matter how small. It does not matter whether Tee Boon Hock is a long-serving member that DAP must give consideration. We are sure now MACC will be very efficient to investigate and charge Tee. Can we expect that they too dig up all the dirt related to PKFZ, whose losses will amount to some RM12 billion?

Malaysiasakit: If indeed there is even a shred of evidence that there is abuse of position in the ranks of DAP, swift action is critical to send the appropriate messages across. To those elected, the rakyat expect you to be as clean as a whistle and to those trying to get an unfair advantage through political patronage - the game is over.

Joe: It must be a painful and difficult decision for the DAP to do this to a fellow comrade-in-arms who has fallen to human weakness. Let God do the forgiving. The DAP has the responsibility to see to it that Tee Boon Hock face the consequence of his actions. DAP must send the right signal to all its representatives - backed by hard action, if necessary - that it will not tolerate corruption and abuse of power.

It is timely DAP set the standard for all its members and stand by it, no matter how painful the cost, that no party member is immune from disciplinary action. DAP has to be uncompromising, to the point of being harsh, if it intends to fight and root out corruption.

Its standard has to be higher and truer than BN-Umno's if it aspires to take over the government along with its Pakatan allies.

Phan Gaik Cher: Well done DAP! Anybody who abuses his position for personal gain should be sacked. Sacking does not take place in BN parties because such abuses of power for personal gains are a norm. If BN were to expel such rogue members, they will have no members left.

Wira: Anyone who is sacked from a component party in Pakatan Rakyat for disciplinary issue relating to corruption must not be accepted by other component parties in Pakatan. This must be etched into the charter of Pakatan.

Anonymous: The rakyat congratulate DAP on its swift and decisive action on this matter and let this be served as an eye opener for all future councillors’ dealings with their cronies or family members involving state contracts and tenders.

Swipenter: This is what the rakyat expects from Pakatan - nothing more, nothing less. Now let the police do their work. I am sure the police would be very fast and efficient in this case. Now see the difference between DAP/Pakatan and Umno/BN. DAP sacks rogue officers from the party, Umno gently slaps their rogue officers' wrists and let them continue their office.

Md Imraz Muhammed Ikhbal: I take my hat off to DAP. This is kind of party we want to have as government. No man in this world is incorruptible and that applies to any leader. But a system that upholds justice and integrity will deal with any form corruption and such is the system of governance the rakyat yearn for. My vote shall go to any party that advocates and commits to such a system.

Anonymous2: Tee is a victim of political revenge and vindictiveness by certain party leaders and members. It is sad that a party veteran of 26 years who have devoted the better part of his political life to the service of DAP in bad times and good times be treated as dirt by the party leadership.

It is also disheartening to note that a serious and crucial decision that affects the political future and public image of a party stalwart like Tee can be made in a few hours. Tee has strong grassroots support in Pandamaran and Klang town and has served the Klang public diligently and faithfully all these years.

By removing him from the political scene of Klang will spell disaster and doom for the DAP in Klang and Selangor.

Rubystar: To say that Tee does not know that his son has a stake in the said company cannot hold water. Using an exco's letterhead to secure contracts is dishonest and tantamount to forgery. Expelling Tee, no matter how many years he has put into the party, is not enough. He must be taken to court, and if found guilty, must face the full force of the court's action.

However, Tee is not a total failure. He can be made an excellent example for others to see that corruption is not the way of Pakatan, and that Pakatan has the political will to weed out corruption with no fear or favour. Neither are they afraid of the political fallout by persecuting its own kind if they step out of line.

Contrast this with Dr Mohd Khir Toyo and one can see the big difference.

Kee See: There is a difference between DAP/Pakatan and BN. DAP/Pakatan sacked all those bad apples. Remember those sacked by PKR earlier? Whereas BN's way is, you scratch my back and I scratch yours.

Anonymous3: This should be a criminal offence. Please make a police report and nail this person, without fear or favour. There should be no double standards in the fight to eliminate corruption.

Karpal proposes death penalty for child rapists

Pure Malaysian: Frankly speaking, I agree with what Karpal Singh suggested. Imagine raping a child and ruining the child's life forever, both mentally and physically. People who are found with 15g of heroin would probably do less harm than that, and yet, they get a mandatory death sentence.

Therefore, with such beasts going around in town, it is better to get rid of those beasts before more victims fall prey to them. Aye to mandatory death sentence.

Hopium: Yes, sir. I have always thought that rapists are not worth being human. They should be castrated, limped or put to death, especially those who rape children. I think this legal move is long overdue, and should have been affected sooner. Maybe we would get human rights activist opposing it, but a child or a woman who is raped will live their lives dying everyday.

Capital punishment may deter potential rapists, and those who commit it deserve the guillotine. I hope the general public will support YB Karpal Singh move.

Magnus: As the matter is a highly emotive one, I am not surprised at this. Nevertheless, it’s a bad move. The death penalty, like the Internal Security Act (ISA), needs to be abolished because they have no place in progressive and civilised human societies where there are other more acceptable methods such as life imprisonment with no parole for such serious and abhorrent crimes.

Killing a human being pre-meditatively - whether by the state or by an individual - for whatever reason is unacceptable.

Mustapa not telling the truth on FDI: Ku Li

KSN: Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, that is golden advice to the young and the country at large, especially about non-racial parties and politics and not following any one party or leader blindly. I hope and pray that your advice is not like throwing pearls to the swine (excuse my use of the word).

Someone said that there are two groups of fools on this earth: one group giving advice (in your case here it is most welcome) and the other who don’t take it seriously.

I pray that the second group in our country, our people, take your advice seriously and quickly, too, so that it is not too late for Malaysia to be saved from the corrupt - who are without integrity - and the fanatics.

Carl: I believe that the comments by people like Ku Li are very irresponsible. As a former minister, he would not have liked people to say, "He was not telling the truth." He’s just seeking cheap relevance so as to stay in the public eye without contributing to society. If he thinks anything is untruthful, then go get the facts. Statistics are available for everyone to see at the Statistics Department.

Barrister at Law: YTL is setting up power plants in Singapore to sell power to Singapore and they are setting up water plants in UK to sell water there. Mustapa is right. Not all FDI is suited for Malaysia anymore. We cannot offer ourselves up for contract manufacturing for low wage and low costs. As we move up the value chain, the available investment is getting less while the competition is greater.

Mikey: This is excellent advice from Tengku Razaleigh. He is a well-respected statesman. No one except self-deluding fools believe minister Mustapa Mohamed’s explanation.

We were on par with Singapore and way ahead of Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia and Cambodia not too long ago. Where are we today compared to them? Our currency is weakening by the day.

These are facts that speak louder than any statistics and the sooner we listen to people like Tengku, the better for Malaysia.
