Couples car, bike ban: 'It's totally ridiculous'

vox populi big thumbnail ‘How on earth could we develop a world-class education system if the country's higher learning institutions waste their time on such petty issues?’

College bars couples from riding motorbikes, cars

KJ Lim: Excuse me, but how old they are the trainees? Why on earth do these people act like their parents? They are adults and should learn to be responsible for themselves.

They are trainee teachers but still need parenting by someone who think he or she is a saint? What a joke. Are we moving towards more open-minded society or a more backward society?

Swipenter: Mazlan Mohamad, you should also have single-sex classes with the appropriate sex lecturer according to the gender of the class. You should also recommend single-sex teacher training colleges to the education department in the long term so there is no need to monitor the activities of mixed sex trainee teachers.

Yuvan: How on earth could Malaysia develop a world-class education system and standard if the country's institutions of higher learning are wasting their time and resources on these kind of petty issues?

It is totally ridiculous of the IPG director, Mazlan Mohamad, to think that couples riding motorcycles or couples in cars will become 'social problems' and it is most absurd for him to say that his directive will prevent illicit relationships and baby-dumping.

He should know that couples who want to 'do it' will have a hundred other novel ways to overcome all the ‘obstacles' and have their way. The more directives, the more will be their determination to break the rules.

The management of our colleges and higher learning institutions should stop playing moral police and concentrate on their efforts to enhance the country's lagging education standards.

Issuing directives for such petty issues is a regressive move that will not help to increase the learning capacity and productivity of our students.

Joe: If the couples are married, I suppose, they must carry their marriage certificates with them at all times. With siblings, they have to ride separate motorbikes. The MCA recently warned the Chinese community about the peril of voting for PAS. But this latest absurdity is happening in Umno-controlled Pahang.

I wonder, is this ruling going to be extended to school and university students as well? If not, why this double standard? So who is trying to out-do who to show who is more Islamic? PAS or Umno?

Which party is responsible for the creeping Islamisation in our country? What does MCA have to say now?

LI Ting Rui: This is crazy idea. Is Mazlan quailified to cast the first stone? If religion fails to educate a person, then the religion has failed. The institution has failed miserably. This order prohibiting a male and a female from riding on the same bike or inside a car is disgusting.

Human mobility has evolved beyond borders. We are no longer living in our caveman forefathers’ era. The geographical area has widened beyond the primitive modes of transport.

Banning couples from travelling together cannot solve baby-dumping. Right religious and social education will.

PAS: Why no action against ex-MAS chief?

Anonymous: Interesting how ex-top cop Ramli Yussof who first made the recommendation to charge Tajuddin Ramli ended up getting charged for misuse of power – for using a Royal Malaysian Police (RMP) aircraft to check out his land in Sabah. He has since been cleared by the court but he lost his position.

Freemsia: The MACC has no time to investigate the ex-MAS chief. They need to concentrate their efforts on the opposition. Joe:

Looking at the financial scandals that have taken place under the Umno regime, of which this MAS-Tajuddin Ramli fiasco is but one of the many horror stories, and the immunity of Umno politicians and their cronies from prosecution, one comes to the realisation that Umno can never change.

The so-called 'People First, Performance Now' concept of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is pure hot air. It is impossible for Umno to change. An independent and professional MACC, attoney-general, police, and judiciary will mean judgement for the Umno buccaneers.

By reforming the criminal justice system, for example, these crooks wil sentence themselves to jail. That's not going to happen. If the Umno government can't change, there is one and only one thing for the electorate to do, and that is to change the government.

All the public funds that have gone down the drain will then not be lost in vain - if the people learn from this very expensive lesson and never ever to allow any government, be it BN-Umno or Pakatan Rakyat, to overstay.

Concerned Malaysian: RM8 billion with all the black and white evidence and no action taken. For RM2,500, immediate action is taken. Can any mind can ever comprehend this?

I have read of so many cases of corruption in the last two years, yet, many cases are just being swept under the carpet. MACC, for goodness’ sake, be independent and fearless. Investigate and come clean.

Otherwise, you are forever letting the people think you are a biased and useless body.

Magnus: What complex, tangled webs we weave when we start to manipulate and deceive. So here we go again with another alleged RM8 billion of the rakyat's cash being siphoned off from them.

Assuming it's all to change after the 13 th general elections, looks like Pakatan Rakyat will have its work cut out for it for at least two terms - unravelling the tangled up, corrupt webs and dubious spinning now evident.

Guess the hard part after general election will be to decide from where to start to unravel the current mess.

PAS goes after Felcra

Teoh Kheng Siong: I think before PAS says anything, they better take a mirror and look at themselves first. First, by introducing this so-called ‘guys and gals cannot walk together in the street’ thing.

Now even worse, there’s the gold and silver dinar currency issue which people abandoned years ago. What's next ? Their mindset is totally outdated. Please change, then come back to the public.

Ghkok: I salute PAS and Pakatan Rakyat for unearthing countless cases of mismanagement, corruption and sheer wastage in this country. Without Pakatan, and the various NGOs in this country, all the tyranny and injustices such as the one in Felcra would never have been exposed.
