Hishammuddin, please don't play dirty

Teresa Kok blasts Hisham over 'dirty' Teo remark

Fairplayer: I don't understand why some Muslim quarters are so "worked up" because MP Teo Nie Ching entered Surau Al-Huda as an invited guest. If she had forced her way in, I can understand. But as an invited guest?

And worse, the home minister who earlier had wielded the ‘keris' inciting ‘Ketuanan Melayu' sentiments, has now called Teo "dirty". How clean is Hishammuddin Hussein himself? If a non-Muslim entering a mosque/masjid/surau can make the place "dirty", then many such mosques and surau had been made dirty many times because tourists and visitors of tour groups do get to enter them, especially Masjid Negara and state mosques.

I am a non-Muslim. As kids, my siblings and I used to play rounders with our young Malay friends from the same kampung in the masjid grounds. We also used to climb the steps that led up to the top of the turret where the loud-speakers were placed. Our Muslim neighbours didn't call us "dirty". We were good and happy neighbours despite our ethnic/religious differences.

TK: In Islam, when a woman is having her menses, she is considered ‘not clean'. Generally, she is considered ‘on leave' and she's not required to perform her daily prayers and cannot also fast. In fact, it is forbidden or ‘haram' for her to do a number of things, including entering the mosque, as ordained by Allah.

Once she has finished her period, before she is allowed to perform her prayer again or fast or enter the mosque, she needs to bathe in what the Muslims call ‘mandi junub'. I believe this is what Hishammuddin meant by ‘dirty' because it is unlikely that Teo Nie Ching would have performed the ‘mandi junub' because she is a non-Muslim.

Muslim men also cannot pray if they are in the state of not being ‘clean' (i.e. after sexual intercourse with their wives) and need to perform the ‘mandi junub' first before they are allowed to pray.

Proarte: It may be 'dirty' according to Malay Islam but Allah is more concerned about the purity of your intentions and your spiritual sense.

If Teo was actually entering the prayer hall in the midst of worship, then she of her own accord would have donned the necessary attire appropriate for the service. She spoke upon invitation of the surau management during a goodwill visit. She was received as a non-Muslim guest in a non-worship setting.

Prophet Muhammad welcomed non-Muslims into the mosque. There is no mention of dress code for non-Muslims in the Quran or Hadith when entering mosques. So what is all this Utusan Malaysia 'penghinaan' about? How about mosques banning corrupt Umno politicians and lying Utusan journalists from entering Muslim places of worship even though they are attired in a 'holy' Muslim way? Would Allah object?

Anonymous: Will Hishammuddin emulate his father, Tun Hussein Onn, and his grandfather, Dato Onn Jaafar - both great leaders who left Umno. Has he forgotten that his father left Umno because it was playing ‘dirty', and he died a non-Umno member. Also, the Father of Merdeka, Tunku Abdul Rahman, also left Umno because its leader/s played ‘dirty'.

Hishammuddin should ask himself this question: "Why did the first prime minister, Tunku, and the third prime minister, Tun Hussein Onn, leave Umno?" If he could honestly and sincerely answer this simple question, then he would have left Umno as well.

Chandran Sukumaran: I feel Umno is desperate to raise race and religious tension among the peace-loving people of Malaysia. Once this happens, they can find justification in not holding GE13. I hope I am wrong in my analysis. Let the rakyat choose the government of their choice.

Passing Cloud: Again and again, the people on the ground say that Malaysia is sorely in need of an intelligent home minister, unlike PM Najib's cousin, Hishammuddin, who's one of the sackful of potatoes running the country.

His track record since becoming the home minister is a string of questionable blunders and flip-flopping. In Teo's case, his understanding of Islam is shallow and yet he dares to cross sword with Tok Guru Nik Aziz Nik Mat, and at the same time, launch into a tirade of abuse against Teo, the surau committee, and the opposition DAP.

It's very unfortunate indeed having him - and his cabinet colleagues - on Malaysia's 53rd Independence Day. May they be trounced and replaced in the next general election.

Maven: This is yet another example of how Umno, driven by sheer desperation and fear, is trying to stamp out the influence of DAP among Malay Muslims. Actions like this only further weaken the credibility and support for BN and Umno as more and more Malaysians wake up and become aware of their utter moral bankruptcy and depravity.

SayaAnakBangsaMalaysia: I can predict what Federal Criminal Investigation police chief Mohd Bakri Zinin and his boss, Musa Hassan, will say about this:

"There is no evidence to charge this person. This case is closed, no further action. Anyway, all my police officers are busy camping outside Namewee's house waiting for him to come home so that we can arrest him and charge him with sedition over his 'Nah!' video that doesn't actually contain any elements of racism, while we are sitting in the office busily ignoring the school principals who actually made the racist remarks. We police are very busy, you know."

Anonymous: Hey Umno, this is supposed to be a holy month for Muslims. Please respect your own religion even if you don't respect other religions.

KAM: Today is Merdeka Day, where once we were blissfully and joyfully celebrating independence day because we did not known what was happening in the power of corridors due to controlled media reports, but not now, and our hearts are empty and devoid of joy because of the state of our beloved country which has been raped and plundered.
