'After 53 years of Umno's policy of affirmative action, 60 percent of the rural Malays are as poor as they were five decades ago.'
KJ: Pakatan playing 'monstrous', 'cheap' politics
Myop101: No Khairy, I don't expect blaming will help with economic growth. But if blaming leads towards policy changes and stemming of wastage and inefficiencies, it is a blame worth making. The question is BN, and specifically Umno, should ask themselves is, are there any wastage and inefficiencies to begin with?
Inquiring from the auditor-general would help. Also, have we compared the speed of our civil service with our neighbours who have seen better growth and progress, like South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore? They previously were way behind us.
I find it perplexing that Umno/BN would demand that Pakatan Rakyat solve what they couldn't do for the last 53 years within 48 months. And it is not that Pakatan is not doing it - they are actually making progress. Aren't Umno/BN ashamed that their status quo arguments have failed miserably?
SAM: Khairy, give Pakatan a chance to lead the federal government to prove what they can do it for the rakyat. See how much Penang and Selangor has done during these two years governing the two states. Don't talk rubbish, the rakyat have awaken. Debate with facts and figures.
Adha: Did any in Umno ever question the government's proposed plan to build the Warisan Tower? Khairy's now talking about some sand in Selangor and how it will effect the earth? I'm very disappointed. He's a big disgrace for Oxford University.
Khairy: Relying on the Malay vote alone will lose us seats
Anonymous: Umno has lost its direction. Even the Malays no longer have faith and trust in this party that has betrayed them.
After 53 years of Umno's policy of affirmative action, 60 percent of the rural Malays are as poor as they were five decades ago. Only a handful of rich Umnoputras benefited from the New Economic Policy.
Drive along the coastal road from Kuantan to Kelantan and you will see Malays living in poverty or in the same conditions as they were living in 50 years ago. If the rural Malays still have not waken up from this deceit by Umno, then they will continue to remain impoverished.
Petestop: The problem with Umno is that it is tested and proven over the past 50-plus years to not care about the non-Malays, trampling over our interests and being one-sided in religious issues. We would rather try out PAS - at least these guys are not as money-crazy as Umno.
Sarajun Hoda: Good speech. The sooner Umno comes to their senses, the better it is for them. They are politicians, just that. They should stop believing they are God-sent to save the Malays. Malays can prove to be strong, hard working and industrious if Umno's ‘protection' is removed.
If you feed birds in a cage for too long, they will lose the ability to find food on their own. This is what Umno has done to Malays.
Survivor: Who is going convince Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Perkasa that Umno needs to change? I was born just after Merdeka and in a very poor family of six brothers and four sisters. All of us suffered from the NEP, but we still survive till today with our own kids now. We don't want our kids to suffer like us, we want a fair government after the 13th general elections.
Kgen: I think we agree with Khairy on all points except on his view that the NEP is still necessary. It should be replaced by a needs-based, race-blind policy. I certainly agree that those harping on Malay unity are dreaming. Malays have become too diverse to be united under one political party.
But who should they be united against? The other races? After 53 years as a nation, some retards are still talking about racial unity and not national unity.
Bersatulah Sabah: This is the real Umno, which defends his own race but has the concern and feeling for other Malaysians. Had this kind of values and characteristics been shown before the 12 th general elections in 2008, the whole scenario of Malaysian politics would not be the same. BN could have had more than three-quarter majority.
Thank you, KJ, for the kindness. You have our goodwill and support.
YF: Isn't this the same Khairy that blamed Indians for not circulating Umno's propaganda in the newspapers during Deepavali?
Once again, another Umno upstart doing a flip-flop. Nice try, KJ, but this is just another sandiwara straight out of Umno's tired and old scripts from ‘Drama Minggu Ini'. The rakyat is fed up hearing all this. Talk is cheap.
Guan Eng: Brain drain has swelled to tsunami levels
YF: Lim Guan Eng still doesn't get it. It is the brains in Malaysia who are voting against Umno and BN. Hence, when these brains leave, Umno and BN are even more happy because they can continue to dupe the rakyat with their brainless propaganda.
Cala: In their book ‘Tiger Economies Under Threat', Yusuf and Nabeshima (2009, pp 8-14) of the World Bank give four reasons why Malaysia has not been successful compared to the original tigers - Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.
First, the quality of skills explains why Malaysia is not able to exploit the presence of multinational corporations.
Second, unlike the original tigers, Malaysia is not embracing the culture of "excellence and innovation". What more with the little we have we offer it to Singapore.
Third, given the limited volume of entrepreneurship and its creativity, naturally it cannot raise the tempo of innovation (made worse by the current regime's lack of appreciation of human capital investment).
Fourth, the dysfunctional government-controlled corporations (GCCs) further erodes "dynamism and innovativeness" given the important roles played by them. In short hence, if Malaysia fails, it is due to the acts of commission, not omission.
SusahKes: "Tan (Zhongshan) recently won several prizes in becoming the top law student in the Cambridge. However, he will not be returning to Malaysia but will heading to Singapore to join its Legal Service Commission".
Well, when years and years of NEP produces senior lawyers like MACC's Abdul Razak Musa , I can understand why a top Cambridge student prefers to go over to Singapore.
