It's not just Parliament that's leaking

vox populi small thumbnail 'Parliament leaks again? Small matter - the whole nation has been leaking for almost 30 years - the 'pagar' that we 'harapkan' has continued to 'makan' our 'padi'.'

Parliament springs leak, yet again

Maitreya: There is no need for a rocket scientist to figure out that almost all concrete buildings in the country are not designed with our climate conditions in mind.

Rectangular blocks tend to have swimming pools on their flat roofs after a two-hour downpour. Drainage pipes are often clogged with debris. After a few days, the undrained rooftop pools seep into weather-worn, porous or cracked concrete, spreading damp throughout the building and appearing as leaks here and there.

Recommended solution: Install rain-collectors on top of all flat-roofed buildings and channel the flow into special rainwater tanks for use in flushing toilets and watering gardens. It might cost a few million to implement in some high-rise structures - but certainly not RM800 million!

DOC: It is times like these when government buildings spring leaks, I'm sure BN/Umno will miss S Samy Vellu. In the past, BN/Umno would pass the buck to Samy Vellu to comment and take the heat for this kind of a "leaking" debacle.

In true Samy fashion, he would come out with a totally out-of-this-world or ludicrous statement that no one would be able to rebuke him, and the issue will die a natural death. I'm going to miss Samy.

Soothsayer: Parliament leaks again? Small matter - the whole nation, Treasury, Bank Negara, etc, have been leaking for almost 30 years - the 'pagar' that we 'harapkan' has continued to 'makan' our 'padi'. All the negotiated tenders and so-called other tenders are all big leaks on our nation's wealth and assets.

Malaysians Are Not Stupid: The situation of the Parliament House mirrors that of Malaysia. Leaking finances in the form of wastages (look at the Auditor-General's Report ), corruption, rent-seekers and inflated contract prices that are bleeding the country dry.

Never-ending repairs that cannot resolve problems, just like the country's administration that keeps coming out with fantastic and brilliant ideas to solve the country's ills but no execution or political will to so.

Result: We are falling behind economically including those countries that we used to be miles ahead of. Now we are comparing ourselves with Vietnam, Cambodia and Burma while our tiny neighbour Singapore, which is resource-poor, is rubbing shoulders with the developed countries.

I think this the kind of transformation PM Najib Razak is talking about.

Monsterball: There is no way to over up corruption completely. The leaks will go on and wear and tear of substandard materials used are so clear. One should see the old movie ‘Towering Inferno', which show that bribes were taken to use inferior quality materials, leading to the whole tower gutted by fire. It maybe a movie, but the facts are real.

Yet Minister Nazri Aziz said, "It is an act of God", that this is a old building, blah, blah, blah. But the building is less than 50 years old. When someone from ‘Umno Baru' tries to cover up corruption, you can immediately detect the idiocy.

Teresa: Avoid PKR-style infighting

Rolls-Royce: If you want to avoid a nasty fight, please try to engage everybody and give them their due roles. Most so, many of them have been with the party for a long time.

Some of you who are now Aduns and MPs (for the first time) must bear in mind you were just lucky to stand for the election at the right time when Malaysians were ready for change. You must bear in mind that many have struggled for years before you with nothing much to show, although they were no less than the incumbents.

Try to accommodate everyone who are loyal to DAP and to the cause. Teresa Kok, please don't engage in double talk, for that is what BN does. I am not a long-time member of DAP; I am just an experienced observer.

KSN: Good call, Teresa. But as far PKR is concerned, the damage is done. DAP, too, to some extent in Perak. Your call is timely and sensible, but it's a bit too late. When elections are over, all must come together and proceed to topple BN as you rightly suggested. But in the case of PKR, the elections were questionable but brushed aside with no logical and acceptable explanation.

Even now, accusations are made that the PKR's top people interfered and took sides with certain candidates' victory. That is not the approach and leadership, which can topple BN. They went for short-term victory for blind loyalty not allowing intelligent discussions and decisions.

Tell us Teresa, what hope do you have for Putrajaya with PKR in the Pakatan Rakyat coalition?

Focus: We can overlook a lack of facilities, poor programmes, a lack of quality leadership, no money, and all kinds of things in DAP. But we just cannot close one eye if there is conflict or disharmony in the party. We place a high premium on unity.

For DAP and other Pakatan parties to move forward there must be unity, even though the unity is not uniform - there can be unity amidst diversity.

'Chong Wei's loss due to absence of BAM's top brass'

Lover Boy: (Minister of Youth and Sports) Shabery Cheek, Lee Chong Wei is a sportsman. Malaysia saw him play his heart out for the country. To suggest that some officials or the top brass, as you put it, was not there, is to insult the intelligence of Malaysians.

Look, he was simply out-classed by another player from China. Lin Dan was simply in top form and had the advantage of home crowd. Lee tried his best but his best was not good enough. I can assure you, whether you were there or the top brass was there, it will not make a difference.

This man will fight for Malaysia any day. Do not insult his mental resolve by suggesting that if you are there it will make a difference. It will not.
