"He must represent all the parties in BA and the voters as well," said Zaitun, in response to the public concern over PAS' increased political clout in Parliament.
"Fadzil should encourage consultation that is in accordance to Islamic principles. At present, decisions are only made by the country's political leader, which the people are expected to follow. This situation must change."
Zaitun is worried that the Islamic party's failure to include the people's opinion, for example in the kharaj issue, will further strengthen the people's misconception that PAS is more concerned about the Muslims or is intending to form an Islamic state, an issue that is often used to show the differing ideologies among the parties in BA.
Zaitun who is from the Women's Candidacy Initiative, a women political support group, exhorted the Opposition Leader to fight for women's rights, especially on the involvement of women in the decision-making process.
"Fadzil must prove that PAS is serious in involving women in politics and is sensitive towards women's issues. The women's wing in PAS should be given the opportunity to actively participate in politics. Only then can the public accurately gauge the party's interest in this matter."
However, Zaitun admits that there are still a lot of women activists who are doubtful about the Islamic party's willingness to address women's issues.
Meanwhile, political cartoonist, Zunar, has called on the Opposition Leader to further expose the wrongdoings of the government. During former opposition leader Lim Kit Siang's time, he said, major secrets on the government's misuse of power were revealed.
"The people want to know what is wrong with the government. For example, Lim unearthed the scandal involving the PLUS highway project and the wealth of MCA president Lim Liong Sik's son," said Zunar.
