Be very afraid of the police

vox populi small thumbnail 'To see the rot of a country, all you need to do is look at the police force and you'll get a good indication. The core of the problem lies in the corrupted government.'

Cops accused of beating and robbing man released

Zimbobwe: It's very important to remember this: the rank-and-file members of the police force, army, navy and airforce are trained to obey orders and unquestioningly carry out instructions from above (meaning higher ranking officers). Independent-mindedness, innovation, creativity and resourcefulness are rarely, if ever, encouraged, if not vigorously discouraged.

This is how humans can be converted into Orcs to serve the Sarumanic agenda of Wawasan 2020 (industrialisation). In other words, the shameful state of our police personnel directly reflects those ultimately in command - in this instance, the IGP (inspector-general of police) and home minister.

If I were either of them, I would personally apologise to Chia (and to all those who have been brutally mistreated or had their kids ‘accidentally' killed by PDRM), appear on TV to express my deep regret that something like that can possibly occur, and then resign immediately - so that a competent person can take over and carry out desperately needed reforms.

LBL: I told my son to be careful of snatch thieves when out in the street. Can the two constables be considered snatch thieves too? I thought for someone to commit a crime in uniform is worse then someone without uniform. Unfortunately, the magistrate thought otherwise.

Anonymous: If anything, we have rogue cops around - basically thieves and robbers who became policemen. Slowly and surely we will weed them out. But like everybody else, everyone has to be given due course of the justice system. They will pay for sure.

Why: Huh? What kind of reason is that? The two officers are supposed to have committed a breach of duty against the people that they are bound to protect. And yet, they are released with the reason that they will not be running away?

They are bound by duty to protect the people but yet they committed such heinous act. What do you think they may do now that they are released? They may harass or blackmail the victim to revoke his accusation.

Eugene: The Malay proverb "Harapkan pagar, pagar makan padi" best describes the atrocities in our justice system. Instead of punishing the criminal, the criminal goes free and the victims gets salt rubbed in their wounds over and over again.

Ramakrishnan: Malaysian police are gangsters in uniform. The corruption and nepotism in police are known by all except the BN government. People suffer at the hands of police. There's a need for change at the top. It's completely rotten up there.

TKC: Anyone who keeps a ‘parang' in one's car must be really stupid because it is a sure-fire way of getting arrested. PDRM (Royal Malaysian Police), please stop giving us these sorry and lame excuses to cover up for your brutality and trigger-happiness.

Anonymous: The victim had to be locked up for five days but the accused officers get released the next day? We are talking about armed robbery and assault here that these police officers had allegedly committed.

Policemen are literally highway robbers these days - they can set up a road block and rob people, even in broad daylight.

Guan: 1) The police or prosecution should have objected to the release of the officers. Instead their lawyer asked for release and it was unchallenged by the police who applied for the extension of remand. Does this show the police as showing strong will in bringing the men to justice? Or is it just a half-hearted attempt at wayang kulit and sandiwara (shadow play)?

2) Why were only two people hauled up when many more were involved? Can two constables do so much without some kind of collusion from some officers? Why no other officers were hauled up?

3) Thanks to the narcotics officer with a conscience who told the victim that he found no wrong in him and ordered the RM5,000 police bail to be returned. There are some good cops after all.

Don't Play God: Remember, the RMP (Royal Malaysian Police) is Umno's bully boy and Umno will go all out to protect the force. So too are the Attorney-General's Chambers and the judiciary. Remember Umno did not put their lawyer as the chief justice for nothing. All signs point to Malaysia heading Zimbabwe's way.

Now Chia Buang Ting's life could be in danger. The police can cook up a story that Chia came to the police station at night with some guys to attack them, and Chia got shot by the police.

The police have been shooting at anything that moves for decades. They have killed hundreds of people in their lock-ups, and have shot all suspected criminals, and even a young kid for driving at night. Be very afraid of the police.

Jaded: To see the rot of a country, all you need to do is look at the police force and you will get a good indication. Indeed, what we see is merely a function of the rot in the central government. The core of the problem lies in the corrupted government.

Controversial Jais chief named new S'gor state sec

P Dev Anand Pillai: It looks like they seek to plant a Putrajaya spy in Selangor's administration. MB Khalid Ibrahim and cabinet will have to be very careful. One of the first steps Pakatan has got to take when it forms the federal government in the future is to ensure that there is a clear distinction between federal government employees and state government employees.

If the current state of overlaps which had caused the collapse of Perak takes place every time the people elect a Pakatan government, BN will use it to continue to manipulate and cheat the electorate by using their federal powers to simply move people around to do their bidding.

Let's hope the people will vote wisely and give at least 40 seats to Pakatan in Selangor to push for this agenda. MB Khalid can perhaps ignore the new state secretary and just get the job done using his own secretarial team instead.

Anonymous: It looks like the rakyat have no other means but to vote Pakatan Rakyat in the next general elections since the royalty have more interests of Umno at heart than the rakyat's. It is obvious to us where we should place our hopes with.

Disgusted: Pakatan state governments can't function properly since the 2008 Tsunami because of sabotage by the BN-led federal government. They have been attacked from within and from without by civil servants, police, GLCs and crony companies like Syabas to bring down the Pakatan government without giving them a fair chance to govern these states. They are choked for funds where BN takes out via taxes.

Yet people expect miracles from Pakatan-ruled governments. It's time for people throughout Malaysia to be bold and change the federal government and give Pakatan a chance to prove themselves.

Otherwise, get what we deserve from the BN regime. The ball is in the rakyat's court.
