Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin is confident that BN will win the Tenang by-election today but said that the floods might affect the coalition's chances of winning big.

NONE "God willing, the BN will win but the chances of gaining a huge support might be affected," he told reporters at the Labis teacher's quarters.

Nevertheless, Muhyiddin said the BN machinery was in high morale despite the gloomy weather.

He said that following a discussion, Election Commission (EC) chairman Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof agreed to allow vehicles belonging to the armed forces and Fire and Rescue Department to be deployed to ferry voters to the polling centres.

No suspension of polling

Flash floods in low-lying areas here forced the evacuation of over 800 people as at 2pm.

NONE "The important thing now is safety. The voters can come out and vote once they are sure of their safety," he said, dismissing rumours that the EC had postponed the by-election.

He described the rumours as another tactic to confuse the voters.

Muhyiddin said the voter turnout might be affected if the unfavourable weather condition continued.

Earlier he visited polling centres at Sekolah Kebangsaan Chempelak, Kampung Paya Merah and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Kamarul Ariffin.

Floods have now cut off access at several main roads connecting villages, Felda settlements and housing estates.
