Egypt is why demos are not wanted here

your say 'It's only a matter of time before a similar people's revolution sweeps our shores. That is why sycophantic supporters of the BN regime are so afraid...'

Water cannon unleashed on anti-Mubarak protesters

Voice: This was in fact a peaceful demonstration. The government should not stop this demonstration as it did not cause any harm or danger to the public. The use of water cannons is totally unacceptable. The government should not feel offended by the demonstrators.

656_ff: For PKR, this is the only way to be seen as an activist party and to make believe that this can happen here in Kuala Lumpur.

Dream on, as Malaysians have nothing to protest about. They have four square meals, can choose their jobs, and also allow migrants to take relatively good-paying jobs because Malaysians don't want to do them.

In 1998, when Anwar was sacked, he tried this street-type protest thing, hoping to ape Indonesia, but alas the people did not come out. The Egyptians can handle themselves well enough, there is no need for PKR members to help them.

Gerard Samuel Vijayan: Having four square meals a day, choosing jobs and allowing migrants to work here does not make Malaysia a Umno/BN utopia that we Malaysians must be eternally grateful for.

Just like Egypt, we have endemic corruption and abuse of power, systemic discrimination and the marginalisation of ethnic minorities, economic mismanagement that has made us the sick man of Southeast Asia, total media control by the ruling party, compromised institutions like the judiciary, police, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), and the Election Commission where there is a complete lack of integrity, independence, competence and professionalism.

We have a non-performing civil service where ability, experience and merit are dirty words, and the wholesale undermining of supposedly democratic institutions like Parliament. To these add the suppression, subjugation and persecution of democratic ideals, civil society, opposition parties and anybody who is perceived to be anti-government by relying on undemocratic, oppressive and outdated laws.

The people of Malaysia should stand side-by-side in solidarity with the Egyptian people in their fight for freedom, democratic rights, better economic conditions, social justice and an end to endemic corruption and abuses by the Hosni Mubarak regime.

This is a regime that has remained in power for 30 years by rigging elections, persecuting and jailing opponents of the government, controlling the press and using the state security apparatus to stifle, subjugate and oppress the Egyptian people, effectively denying them political rights and freedoms.

Sounds familiar? It's just like here in Malaysia. It's only a matter of time before a similar people's revolution sweeps our shores. That is why sycophantic supporters of the BN regime are so afraid of public displays of dissent.

SusahKes: You wonder just how much longer it will it take before this nation breaks like Tunisia and Egypt. As long as Umno/BN regime continues to think that Malaysia is their god-given right to trample upon, there will come a time when the breaking point is finally reached. And the economy and inflation are slowly turning into tipping points to get the masses raging.

All signals seem to point that PM Najib Razak is losing control over the situation. More often than not, he's busy flying the world over when he's supposing to be solving problems at home instead. If he's not flying, the ‘first lady' is.

How many problems has Najib solved since he became PM? Teoh Beng Hock, PKFZ (Port Klang Free Zone), Allah issue, racism, inflation, corruption, police brutality, etc - not one major issue has been resolved.

Other than serenade us with 1Malaysia promos, or playing Santa Claus during by-elections, or having the first lady hog MSM (mainstream media) pages, I really cannot see problems being solved. And in the midst of this, he gasses his own citizens. I hope the US embassy took note.

Habib RAK: The similarity between the police of Egypt and Malaysia is very obvious. Both act in a thugish manner against peaceful protesters. Once the police get involved, violence and brutality are unleashed. The police instigate and cause chaos and havoc. The video clips provide compelling evidence against the police.

Aisyahaisyah: The demo in KL is people-to-people support for Egyptians as requested by the Egyptians. It's a global movement for democracy.

Change: What is happening in Egypt now will sooner or later come to Malaysia because of the iron fist rule by Umno/BN for the past 53 years. Billions are lost to Umno/BN goons in the form of corruption, etc. The army did not take orders from Mubarak until pro-Mubarak move in.

However, such incident will not take place in Malaysia. The moment protest and demonstrations starts in KL or other parts of the country, PDRM's light strike force, the water cannon trucks with chemical-laced water, tear gas, etc, and of course, the pro-Umno/BN protestors will be there at the scene to create havoc.

Then the Umno/BN government will blame opposition for the chaos and bring in the emergency rule. We saw it in Iran/Tunisia/Philippines, etc, and now in Egypt. So in Malaysia too, the army and police are in the hands of Umno/BN.

Multi Racial: Well, I can see why the government is jittery with the demonstration although it was not targeted at them but the Egyptian government. They fear this people power may spread over to this country considering the corruption by those in power are equally high over here.

Anonymous_40dd: The violent response from the police carries a message. "Don't you dare to do the same thing against the BN government here."
