Malaysiakini moves to new site, goes free

Malaysiakini's main servers located at TM and Jaring datacentres continue to be bombarded by a denial-of-service attack today - 30 hours after the initial attack began.

The servers have been rendered inaccessible since 11am yesterday. Due to the scale of the attack, which originated from servers located in China, Malaysiakini is as yet unable to stop the onslaught and revive our servers.

As a response and service to readers, Malaysiakini has made all its content for free, posting content to Wordpress [ malaysiakinicom.wordpress.com ] and Facebook [ facebook.com/malaysiakini ] platforms.

Malaysiakini has also moved to new servers. Working with a new datacentre, Malaysiakini has added security layers to filter the traffic coming from the suspected source.

Some readers may now be able to access Malaysiakini . If you are unable to do so, try to delete the cache in your browser (For Firefox, go to ‘Tools’, click on ‘Clear recent history’, and then ‘Clear now’. For Internet Explorer, go to ‘History’, click on ‘Delete browsing history’, and then ‘Delete’).

Malaysiakini subscribers are advised not to log in as this will put further stress on our new servers.

Late today, Malaysiakini came under a new wave of attacks but the new servers are holding up thus far.

We expect new rounds of attacks against Malaysiakini in the run-up to the Sarawak election on Saturday. In order to thwart new attacks, Malaysiakini will be creating new servers and new locations for its content.
