Before you call DAP racist, look at the mirror

your say 'Mahathir's accusation is an effort of demonising DAP. It is his way of ensuring Umno stays in power so that one day his son might become PM.'

Mahathir says it again - DAP a racist party

Onyourtoes: If there was indeed some initial success by the Alliance in the earlier years, it was destroyed, hijacked and distorted by you (Dr Mahathir Mohamad) - yes you, the most cunning, hypocritical, dictatorial and racist PM of Malaysia.

For you, of course, genuine multiracial Malaysia is not possible and can never be ready. It was not ready 50 years ago, it is not ready now and if will never be ready for the next 100 years.

How can it ever be, when racism is being inculcated and accentuated day in and day out. You fellows can never leave the gravy train. So the time has come for all of you to be thrown out of the train at high speed.

Umno has been using the hapless from other races to give Umno the multiracial image but everybody, even an idiot, knows Umno is controlling and dictating everything. What power sharing, Mahathir?

As far as I know, we share the heavier burden on taxes and we created the bulk of GDP. I think for the first time you have realised that there is a possibility that the Malays are beginning to warm up to the idea of equal citizenship for this has never been a cause of their poverty or lack of economic progress.

The real culprit is corruption, abuse of power, incompetence, mismanagement and wastage, for which you were responsible.

Petestop: This coming from someone who believes that the Malay race is weak due to custom of intermarrying close kin as he states in the very first chapter in his ‘Malay Dilemma' book.

What we want is a government that is corruption free, that does not waste taxpayers money by leaking it to their crony Umnoputras contractors, who in turns sub-contract it to their MCA ‘mandores', all the while we suffer due to all these wastage.

Again and again, BN is the one that keeps racially profiling everybody else, but themselves. But we also all know that BN is the most racist of political parties, otherwise, why would they condone Utusan piece like the ‘1Melayu, 1Bumi', while on the other hand lied about 1Malaysia? 1Malaysia for who, really?

Justiceandpeace: We should not be so rude to our esteemed former prime minister Dr Mahathir. We should respond with decorum and sound reason and understanding or we will not be taken seriously.

I agree with Mahathir that the Alliance of racial parties under the leadership of the Tunku Abdul Rahman was hugely successful in gaining independence and played the key role in the formation of Malaysia. It was a coalition of equals which respected each other and took each others' concerns genuinely and respectfully.

And the open-handed leadership of the Tunku was truly the icing on the cake. The current coalition is a totally different creature from the one led by the Tunku. The slide began immediately after he left and reached its full nadir under Mahathir.

For it to become successful again, it must once again become closer to a coalition of equals which genuinely - emphasis on genuine - respect one another. Whoever is able to achieve what the Tunku achieved, whether it is the BN or Pakatan Rakyat, will ultimately carry the country to the nobler level.

Quigonbond: Tun M couldn't be more wrong. Every time someone says DAP is a racist party, people don't say DAP is less racist than Umno. They say Umno is racist and DAP is not.

The only reason Pakatan has not contested under a common banner is because ROS (Registrar of Societies) refused to register them as a coalition. Anyway, when does contesting under one banner itself make a coalition non-racist? Racism is ultimately reflected in government policies.

Tun M's accusation of DAP is nothing but an effort of demonising the opponent so that the real issues are lost in translation amongst the less enlightened masses. It is his way of ensuring Umno stays in power so that one day his son might become PM.

Saw Huat Leong: Dr M can claim whatever he likes. My question is:

1) Can we still find any politician currently in government that has the qualities of Tunku Abdul Rahman, Tan Siew Sin and VT Sambanthan? If so, please name them.

2) Power sharing? I believe there was but is it still there? Do lesser parties in BN coalition enjoy equal say?

I agree that "...the races were deeply divided before independence and that multiracial parties were just not possible." But the situation changed because the country was well-governed with good and sincere people in government. Representatives that worked for the country and not for self-interest. Is it the same now?

If BN can get back to its original form, why should we want any alternative?

Survivor: TDM, you are always speaking and blogging with your heart full of hatred. That's why you can't see beyond the goodness of multiracialism by calling others racist.

It is coincidental that DAP has more Chinese members. But that does not make it a Chinese party. If DAP wants to be a Chinese party it would have joined BN and benefits from your years of patronage politics.

I believe the DAP is trying hard to recruit Malays and other non-Chinese to be members. The general Malay populace is not joining the DAP because of Umno's years of propanganda accusing DAP to be a racial party.

Everyone knows that Umno/MIC/MCA are racial parties by nature. By coming together, they do not make BN a multiracial party.

Anonymous_8_CE: All respondents here are certainly Chinese. No question about it, as only Chinese will take offense to Mahathir's words. There has and never been any question that the DAP is a Chinese party, and their opposition is only Umno, which signifies Malay.

This there can be no denial, otherwise why do they bother to attack Umno/Najib Razak and Utusan Malaysia . What about free press and free speech? Why ask the government to curtail Utusan as this is against the fundamentals of a free press, an issue DAP is among the most vocal.

So selective persecution of the press is okay and only when DAP says it's okay. Hypocrites.

Wira: Anonymous_8_CE, your argument is flawed. Get this very clear in your head - Umno is Malay but Malay is not Umno. To say that Malay is Umno is to suggest that all Malays support corruption, rent-seeking and cronyism. Election results over the years have shown otherwise.

By Election Fan: Only the blind or the naive rural Malays have failed to know how bad Umno had turned into under your 22 years of leadership. You had disguised as a Malay and used racism to divide and rule. You had damaged the racial ties among Malaysians to the advantage of you and your corrupted Umno cronies.

Now, you are accusing DAP as racist by labelling DAP the same as PAP. Did DAP had the power to draft marginalisation policies against Malays? All the years you are blaming PAP for mistreating Singapore Malays, do you know much is their per capita income?

Is it due to your jealousy of LKY (Lee Kuan Yew) for his internationally well-respected statesman status for his contribution bringing Singapore to world-class city state where you failed miserably?

Habib RAK: Dr M: "Maybe one day everyone will forget their racial origins and regard themselves only as Malaysians. But that day has not arrived yet."

Perhaps for you it has not arrived yet and I think it will never arrive for you. But for the younger generation, the day has arrived for sometime now. In your own words, "Only the blind and the bigoted would fail to see...".
