Ibrahim Ali should stay at home instead

your say 'I would instead advise him to stay home on July 9 and watch a new Malaysia unfold. It's unstoppable, no matter what happens.'

'Chinese stay home' remark just advice, says Ibrahim

MySecret: The fact is, Ibrahim Ali is poisoning the minds of our young - your children and mine will be mortal enemies. This idiot and his lot will sacrifice the future of our sons and daughters for their selfish, narrow deceitful interests.

He has no role under the new Malaysia. I would instead advise Ibrahim to stay at home on July 9 and watch a new Malaysia unfold. You are too late, the change is unstoppable, no matter what happens. You have, in your own way, played a part in making a new Malaysia come true.

KSN: Ibrahim Ali, how come suddenly the July 9 rallies is Malay-Malay affair? Bersih is not Malay, it is a cosmopolitan movement representing all the people of this country, of all races and religions, seeking free and fair elections.

You called Ambiga Sreenevasan a Hindu woman. That she is. But she is not fighting for the Hindu or Indian cause but for the country.

No one should be allowed to use the May 13 tragedy to threaten and intimidate the Chinese and others. Assuming something like that happens again, God forbid, who will stand to lose the most? It will be the Malays.

Do the fanatics realise that the situation has changed dramatically and beyond recognition since 1969? I have interacted with Malays from young. They are a good and cultured people. So are the Chinese and Indians.

Hello: Ibrahim was threatening the Chinese during his mini-rally. Anybody with any common sense can see that. Now that he realises that he has gone overboard he tries to give excuses. What a gutless hypocrite. [Watch the video]

Faz: It has really amazed me to see this Ibrahim Ali character justifying anything and everything.

He was a rebel rouser in ITM (Institut Teknologi Mara), and he is playing the same game now nearly 40 years later. The man has not changed, although we Malaysians have moved along and progressed over time.

Patriot: Ibrahim Ali's modus operandi is to say one thing and retract it later. He even attacks his own race for not heeding his stupid advice.

The government is seen to be 'fearful' of this person and tries to downplay whatever he utters, and this make him even bolder to make seditious statements. It may look good for the opposition, but it's definitely very destructive for the government for condoning his threats and bowing to extremism.

Zana: Ironic, isn't it? Finally, Ibrahim Ali speaks the truth and it hurts everybody. It's true. Before this, most demonstrations were PAS' initiative, and only a handful of non-Malays joined, especially during the days of reformasi.

Is this what Nik Aziz Nik Mat had in mind when he appointed Ibrahim Ali as a PAS candidate for Pasir Mas?

Attoong: Before the advent of reformasi, street protestors were mainly Chinese. Check out the protest movements from the 1940s through to the 1970s. What about Hindraf Indians?

Every democracy-loving Malaysian has the right to be, and should be, on the street on July 9.

Thuey: Many have chosen to see Ibrahim's remarks as seditious and negatively. If someone like Lim Guan Eng had issued the very same statement, it would be interpreted as advising the Chinese to stay at home and stock up food to avoid getting involved in whatever was being planned and not to waste time at the rally.

We sometimes have to be fair in judging statements without prejudice. True, most probably Ibrahim really meant to threaten the Chinese, but again, it is purely an assumption. We cannot allow the views of the majority to interpret whatever an individual says and penalised him based on popular decision.

Since Ibrahim has explained or rephrased his statements, we should move on. Like it or not, that is the ways things should be done.

4EverMalaysian: This is not a Malay-Malay clash, but a clash between ‘dirty' and ‘clean', between people's rights and suppression, between good and evil. This is an all-Malaysian affair, by the Malaysians and for the future of our beloved country, Malaysia.

Joker: Ibrahim Ali has once again hijacked a peaceful agenda and twisted it as a pretext to spew more hatred and evil. Bersih is about free and fair elections, but Ibrahim Ali is saying it is about Malay versus Malay.

Of course, he claimed he was being victimised when Malaysiakini "twisted" his earlier statement that this was more of a Malay vs Chinese issue. What's more, he spewed all these lies and messages of hatred and violence while decked out in Malay regalia in Parliament. Good thing he didn't use Islam this time.

We tend to believe Ibrahim Ali's words more than Najib's 1Malaysia. Not only does Ibrahim Ali speaks his views more loudly than Najib, he backs it up with action, while Najib is always Nato (no action, talk only). His action, or rather inaction, is a tacit support for Ibrahim Ali's aggressive stance.

Ashwin: Why the silence from our 1Malaysia prime minister over Ibrahim Ali's sedition. Our PM is acting in the true tradition of running with the hare and hunting with the hounds - trying to be on both opposing sides at the same time.

I was in Kuala Lumpur in 1969 where innocent Chinese were killed. Is Ibrahim Ali provoking such a scenario in 2011? Mr Prime Minister - your silence is deafening.

Kee Thuan Chye: Ibrahim Ali should expose the plot to topple the federal government and release the list of names of those purported to take over.

Another thing - after what he has said about the Chinese not demonstrating, the Chinese should prove him wrong by turning up at the Bersih rally in the thousands.
