Members of seven local authorities today donned bright yellow for their respective meetings in support of the Bersih 2.0 rally which has been planned for July 9.

NONE The seven local authorities are for Subang Jaya, Shah Alam, Kajang, Klang, Selayang, Ampang and Petaling Jaya.

At the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) full board meeting, all council members wore the Bersih 2.0 t-shirt over their work clothes.

Their counterparts at the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) and Petaling Jaya Municipal Council (MBPJ) wore black suits with a bright yellow tie.

Some wore headbands, while some of the female Muslim council members wore bright yellow headscarves.

Over at the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) full board meeting ( below ), the minutes for the last meeting were printed on bright yellow sheets of paper.

Unperturbed with crackdown

MPS councillor Lee Khai Loon in a statement today said that the move showed that Selangor’s councillor’s were unperturbed with the crackdown on Bersih 2.0 by the police.

NONE He said that the councillors were in solidarity with Bersih 2.0’s call for a free and fair election process.

“The police should focus on their jobs which is protecting the public from crime and not hunting down people wearing Bersih 2.0 t-shirts,” he said.

Lee urged the police to respect the choice by Bersih 2.0’s protestors to stage a peaceful assembly to voice their concerns and work with organisers to make sure the event is staged in an orderly fashion.

Bersih 2.0 is urging the public to support its rally on July 9 to create awareness and campaign for reforms on the election system.

However, the authorities are claiming that Bersih 2.0 has been infiltrated opposition, communist and foreign elements out to create chaos and ultimately topple the federal government with violence.
