It appears that the so-called clone Umno members - "exposed" by PAS Youth recently - have come out in the open to deny claims that they have duplicate membership in the party.

Local Malay daily Sinar Harian ran a series of articles today after managing to track down all six of the alleged clones who are none too happy about their personal details being made public without their knowledge.

The tabloid managed to speak directly to all six of the people incriminated in the PAS Youth expose, with at least two of them considering legal action against the opposition party wing.

NONE "Dear God, how could they use my name. I demand they apologise for defaming me in the month of Ramadan," said one of two Umno members named Besah binti Mat from Jejawi Batas in Kangar, Perlis, as quoted by the tabloid.

A member of the Besah family, from Kg Telaga Hj Latiff, - an area in Arau, Perlis - pointed out that it is ridiculous to say that their mother was a double voter as she had never lived outside their village.

Last Monday, Johor PAS Youth chief Suhaizan Kaiat claimed they had discovered three cases of duplicated identity. He alleged that not only was this an issue of MyKad duplication but also of Umno membership.

He said they managed to find three names that were registered at two different locations - Azahar bin Ahmad, Besah binti Mat and Mansor bin Ahmad.

PAS youth comes under fire

NONE The two Mansors, one a Felda settler while the other a retiree, came together to lodge a police report each at the Changlun police station yesterday against Suhaizan for alleged defamation.

The pair claim to have lived in their respective villages for at least three decades, with one of them, the Felda settler, slamming PAS Youth for riding on unsubstantiated information.

"PAS' action appears as if they are simply looking for faults without doing research and I will take legal action," Sinar Harian quoted him as saying.

The daily also managed to meet with at least one of the two individuals named Azhar, with one still living in Perlis while the other had moved to Pahang 13 years ago.

The Azhar they met in Perlis denied he was ever involved in double voting, stressing that the extent of his political involvement was to oversee ballot boxes at the Kilang Gula polling station in Chuping during his Umno Youth days.
