The family of BernamaTV cameraperson Noramfaizul Mohd Nor, killed in Somalia on Friday while covering a humanitarian mission, will receive RM200,000 in group insurance claim.

“Although the members have been asked to sign a letter of indemnity, the club still bought insurance coverage for them,” he said in an interview with TV1's ‘Kopi Panas ’ host Zulkifli Bujang.

Abdul Azeez stressed that the mission to Somalia adhered to all standard procedures, including studying the status of the area and surveying the location.

“We were received by the deputy health minister, the deputy fisheries minister and police and army chiefs, when we arrived in Somalia. We were also given a briefing and an assurance of security,” he said.

    

Abdul Azeez said 60 security personnel were assigned to look after the team.

“Furthermore, we are a non-government organisation. Our trip to Somalia is voluntary, apart from asking for a Royal Malaysian Air Force aircraft to send the aid and mission members,” he said.

Nonetheless, Abdul Azeez said the club will improve and strengthen future missions.

In response to Zulkifli’s question about the large number of members taking part in the club’s mission, Abdul Azeez said this was probably because of its noble aim.

He explained that 173 volunteers of various races had applied to join the mission to Somalia but only 55, including 15 from the media, were picked.
