RCI on illegals? Sabahans can dream on

vox populi small thumbnail 'If sincerity is in order, then take action against those crooked officers who threatened national security by blatantly issuing ICs illegally.'

RCI on Sabah illegals not ruled out, says Muhyiddin

Ksn: Sabah, it was reported in the 1980s, had about a million illegal immigrants during Mahathir Mohamad/Harris Salleh's time and the talk was that people in authority were going around distributing ICs to them just to increase the Muslim population for political purposes.

DPM Muhyiddin Yassin is now, after 30 years of talking, considering an RCI (royal commission of inquiry) on this issue.

If an RCI is set up, the authority should identify those who were given citizenship status and revoke them, and punish those responsible for such a crime, treason if you like, which is the real threat to national security.

The people of Sabah have brought up this issue many times previously and it appears that their legitimate concerns on this issue can only be addressed with a change of government. Are the Sabahans up to it?

Following this initiative from Sabah, the same problem in the Sarawak and the peninsula can also be probed accordingly.

Gunner: The RCI should be formed to tackle not only the problems of illegal immigrants but most importantly, to investigate the issuance of both fake and 'real' ICs to immigrants, i.e, granting of Malaysian citizenships in exchange of votes.

If Muhyiddin can implement the formation of the RCI and those ICs issued 'illegally' be revoked, I am very certain 80 percent of Sabahans who are now anti-establishment will return to support BN.

Onyourtoes: Upko president Bernard Dompok, please don't play game. You are never sincere in protecting the rights of native Sabahans.

Since when were the findings of RCI ever respected in this country? Since when were RCIs ever properly constituted with men of distinction and character holding the helm? Now you want another RCI - for what, Dompok, may I ask? To show that you are doing something?

Doing what, Dompok? So that you can pacify the anger and truncate the demand of Sabahans to have a fairer deal within the Federation? Dompok, it is too late now.

Quigonbond: Muhyiddin, what nonsense are you saying that Pakatan Rakyat being unprepared? Pakatan is always prepared to see a spade for a spade.

When you present the changes in Parliament and it passes their watchful eyes, be sure they will congratulate BN where credit is due. But not before. However, knowing the many times this government has U-turned on its policy announcements, there is no a chance that this will be implemented.

As to Sabah RCI not off the table, surely the question must be - why the wait? Until you've cleaned up potential adverse evidence against BN?

Melter Jiki Tais: To form RCI on the illegal immigrants issue in Sabah no doubt is a good idea, but it does not solve the problem because a certain BN political party is protecting them for its political survival in Sabah.

Blogsmith: Make sure you keep your word and investigate. And not only investigate but also do something about it.

Don't come up with that "Looks like me, sounds like me, but is not me" excuse where a finding is established but nothing is done. And make sure it is done before the next general election.

Swipenter: You think that they let you get to the bottom of imported population growth? After the end of the Vietnam War, all the Vietnamese refugees were rounded up and put into barbed-wired refugee camps. Not one single one was allowed to walk around town freely.

But illegal migrants from Indonesia and southern Philippines can get legalised by the thousands and all can literally walk the streets of Sabah freely.

Now this artificial boosting of population throughout the country is getting out of control and these instant bumiputeras are now competing for special rights and privileges originally reserved for the authentic natives and Malays of the country.

Up2U: There is no need for RCI. It will just be another tim- wasting show with no result. If sincerity is in order, go take action against those crooked and guilty officers who threatened national security by blatantly issuing ICs illegally.

Soi Lek: Gov't not doing enough to sell GST to rakyat

Rakyat 1st: MCA chief Chua Soi Lek, the problem of not getting a good response from taxpayers is we are being burdened with another tax. Whereas in other countries upon the introduction of a GST/VAT (goods and services tax/value-added tax) the taxpayers' income tax is lowered.

For the government, a GST/VAT cast a wider net and there is less chance for tax evasion. But our government is not transparent and it does not show whether our income tax will be reduced upon the introduction of the GST. And the middle-income group would have to bear the higher tax burden as percentage of earnings.

Please Chua, don't bluff and blame the opposition again.

Wfworker: The fact remains that our current system cannot cope with the proposed GST because it is open to abuse so easily by our political leadership and our not-too-smart civil servants.

Can you imagine cheques addressed to Bank Negara being waylaid into private accounts and similarly with cheque payments sent to companies?

How do you account for such incidents if not our system where cheats can escape even when caught?

MatrixLYN: Chua, what is there to explain? The government coffers are empty thanks to Umno's corruption and now they need to find more ways to rob the rakyat.
