'Can a person who resorts to monetary handouts to gain support during an election be trusted to handle the country's destiny?'
Gov't hands out goodies, polls in view
Black Mamba: Clutching a fist full of dollars ready to throw at civil servants and pensioners, PM Najib Razak hopes to walk to the polls for a big win.
This is the hallmark of a very shallow mentality, of a mediocre leader who lacks vision, originality, reform, progressiveness and intelligence to fast-forward the nation to greater economic heights.
Boom Boom Pow: The usual BN modus operandi is to give the goodies first, win the election, then worry about the problems later when they are in control of the government.
What is the point of doing the right thing and then losing federal government? They must win at all cost!
Docs: BN robs the rakyat lock, stock and barrel and then throws some pittance back to us and make it sound like they are doing us a bloody big favour, telling us we are indebted to BN/Umno.
The federal government is hallucinating if they expect 2011's growth to be between 5 and 5.5 percent.
Truth Seeker: What sort of government are we having now that appears to have no other serious plan for financial recovery for the country's coffer, but continues to splash out goodies to gain support?
What many seem to forget is that the country needs to increase national productivity, sincerely foster greater racial respect for all races in terms of religious beliefs/practices amongst every creed and belief in our country.
When the country's debt is high and dry, the problem of solving it will be that of the new government of the day.
Still remember what the Pakatan Rakyat government had to do in Penang?
Can a person who resorted to monetary handouts to gain support during any election/by-election be trusted to handle the country's destiny? That’s a big question mark!
Retnam: This is another "I help you, you help me" example. Take the goodies and vote for Pakatan, I say.
SMC77:
Idris Jala can quit his job. Government subsidies remain high and we are on the right track to be the next Greece in Asia. Thanks to the persistent mismanagement of the past 50 years under BN.Quigonbond: Our civil service here pales in general by comparison with civil services in developed countries, including Singapore - not just in terms of productivity, but also in terms of independence, initiative and professionalism.
Why should almost 1 million unproductive people enjoy an increase in salary (which no doubt comes significantly from the blood, sweat and tears of taxpayers in the private sector), while the private sector is not similarly motivated with a proportionate reduction in income tax?
The constantly ballooning operational expenditure is now synonymous with unmitigated increase in graft, wastage and abuse of power.
Watch out Najib, Malaysians might just do a Tea Party on BN just as how the Americans swept the Democrats away in the mid-term congressional elections.
Raikonen: Najib, we don’t need goodies from your budget. It’s good enough if the BN just stops robbing the people.
Anonymous_40f4: As they always do, they rape Petronas, EPF, Socso, etc. They don’t care about the long-term adverse implications to the country and its people.
The bottom line is, Najib is fighting to remain PM at all cost.
Foodforthought: An insincere ‘syok sendiri’ budget at the rakyat's expense.
Not delivering on budget would be 'suicide'
Onyourtoes: For those who have studied some economics, we know the government cannot technically run out of money. As a sovereign state, the government can always borrow and create money.
Eventually it is the value of money we should be looking at, and also whether or not government spending has led to capacity generation.
If a government throws money to increase aggregate demand without the corresponding increase in goods and services, the consequence is clear for all to see.
Up2U: What political suicide? It's only a budget and as sure as the sun will rise, there will be a supplementary bill to increase the allocations. Hold the GE early next year and the rest is ‘belakang kira’.
MCA: Some 'eye candy' awaiting membership
Geronimo: Wee Ka Siong, we are not questioning the professions of the girls. We are questioning MCA's motives in having the girls at a political party AGM where serious matters are discussed, such as policies that will shape the party and the nation.
If you have them to attend merely as observers, which means they could not possibly contribute anything at all politically, then you must have gotten them to just sit there and look pretty, for the male delegates to gawk at.
It is okay if you invite them to branch or divisional meetings, but at national level and an AGM at that?
Has MCA become a joke? As I see it, you are merely exploiting the fairer sex for your own gain and the women NGOs should take up the matter with you.
If they are serious about politics, then I would like to see them take on some of their peers like DAP reps Hannah Yeoh and Jenice Lee for a start, to an open debate.
Admit it, MCA is a lost cause and you are hoping the seven ‘sweet young things’ may just save the day.
Victor Johan: This is the best way that MCA knows to entice the youth to join their party, after all thinking young Chinese youth have abandoned this party in membership and/or support.
I trust that these young lasses did not even know whatever was going on in this delegates’ meeting. They were seen being ushered off quickly soon after the meeting, to avoid reporters questioning them directly.
Wira: MCA is very good at getting scantily dressed singers to spice up their functions. Even their ‘Tai Kor’ (big brother) Umno have been known to emulate them when political functions attended mainly by the Chinese are held by the party. Why shouldn't questions be raised about those ladies?
Sarawakian_3ff9: Nothing wrong with this. They are all a pretty and decent looking lot as Wee Ka Siong pointedly tells us. It's just that MCA is using them to gain some cheap publicity or just to make sure that the meeting is well attended, especially by its male members.
Jtfo: I have been an MCA life member for 26 years and have never been called up to attend this type of function. The girls are lucky to join at the right time.
Anonymous_3e4b: MCA has done an all-time low. Using ladies as 'objects' to attract attention towards MCA’s general assembly when the majority of Chinese in Malaysia are no longer interested.
